The Characters You Didn't Like

For me it honestly all depends on the story, rather than 'just' characters and me liking their personalities or not. I am pretty certain I will always (slightly) despise Spike, it does not mean I would not watch a show with him, as long as he is not portrayed as St Spike the brave Hero, beloved of all the good folks and champion of light, which thankfully he never will be in any Whedon directed and edited show, comic etc. I actually quite enjoyed Spike in Buffy book in S9 because it all went where I always imagined things would go between these two, and as an audience I got my satisfaction of 'not' being Jossed, at least on that account. I would probably not watch the show/ read a comic with just Spike and all new characters, unless it would be written/directed by one of the AtS team writers or just somebody as good as Brian Vaughun. (S9 Spike series is a good example what a writer with all the best intentions and no idea of what to do with the character can do to a story. It was mediocre not because it only has Spike and an entomology samples, but because it was pointless rehash.)

Another good example is me and the Breaking Bad characters pool. I dislike every one of them - yet we continue to watch the show and I am certain I will not stop until we are done with it.

I agree with what many others are saying here which is that it's all about the storytelling. If that's done well, I'll always be interested, no matter who the featured character is.
 
I'd probably give any series a couple of episodes to see if it took my interest. If it did I'd probably watch the rest of the season, but if not, I'd stop watching.
 
I'd probably give any spinoff a go, to see how it turned out- after all, I wasn't that interested in Angel or Cordelia before watching AtS, now they're two of my favourite characters from the Buffyverse. It might be that I enjoy the character in a different setting, or enjoy the supporting cast, if not the main character. I might be quicker to give up on a series about, say, Spike, than a show about Giles, for example, if I didn't enjoy the first few episodes, though
 
I would watch a spinoff, even if it was with a character I didn't like, because spinoffs usually have a completely different vibe from the original. Angel was much darker and more adult than BtVS and a story line about someone else would be different from both of them.

Look at NCIS and NCIS LA as an example of a spinoff with a completely different vibe. Likewise, CSI, CSI Miami and CSI NY are all different and the spinoff is not necessarily worse.

That said, I doubt another Buffy spinoff would have the critical mass to get on the air and it would have to exist in consonance with all the new canon from the comics.

Well, I liked "Angel" because it was more rooted in adult themes... It was a darker show, and I think that was surprising to a lot of people. Yes, it's a really good show. 🙂
 
I suppose it would depend on the set-up, I mean I like any character with depth that I feel still has stories to be told about them- they would interest me. The thing is I now feel that there are some characters who no longer interest me- that's why I wouldn't watch their show (for example Anya or Spike), not because of hatred.

But give me a Giles: the series, or even 'The Further Adventures of Xander, Andrew and Dawn' and I would watch out of curiosity

As for ships, I had my fill of Spuffy, thanks. But I'm open to most others, if their, you guessed it, interesting (and if I could actually buy the idea of these two hooking up in the first place). Might've been interesting to see a male/male relationship on the show (I could easily buy Xander going that way after Anya.)

I don't tend to hate regular characters on the two shows (I dislike them sometimes- examples being Andrew. Or Spike in S6/7 but then I liked his again in Angel S5...) but boy I do hate some of the guest stars with a burning passion. Forrest anybody? Kennedy? Also Holden/Knox (two characters played by the same actor) I hate them so much, 😡 possibly beyond all reason. (But then again possibly not.)
 
I would probably go on Wikia to search where the cast from Buffy/Angel make an appearance and just watch it.

As mentioned already, I too wouldn't watch a show about Riley and the ridiculous cheesy commandos. I don't like Riley so much but I don't hate him.

If it was about Spike, I'd probably watch it because I don't really hate him much either, it's just that I don't like these characters but Spike can be neat at times.

I mean really.. who the heck would make a Kennedy The Vampire Slayer? haha
No thank you lol, she's not a stand alone character.

I always liked Angel and I liked him more when he got his own show so yeah the character would probably be more likeable as they would be more developed.
