Easter is on it's way (this weekend).

What do you do if anything for Easter? Chocolate? Church? Dinner? Egg Hunts?

We do all the sweet stuff from chocolate eggs to homemade cakes...Abbs has to do a hunt for her treats with complicated rhyming clues at every point, all around the house!!!
 
Ah, I miss my childhood now, when we dressed up as "påskkärringar" (kind of a witch I guess) and participated in a nicer version of trick or treat 😉 (there's no trick, we used to bring little hand-painted cards that we handed out in exchange for treats). My brother and nephews being too big for it, my recent niece too small, I guess this year will just be eating food with part of the family. No eggs, no hunts... sometimes it would be great to have more kids in the family 😀

To be honest though I didn't even realize it was Easter until my mom called me today, so I guess I can't say it's a big holiday for me in general. Mostly I think of it as the thing that reminds me that Walpurgis night is coming 🙂

There ya go! That sounds like a reason to have a kid if I ever heard one- for to better enjoy the holidays! If you work really hard you could have one this time next year. It could be your babies first påsk next year.

Not much really. Just dinner & some candy. BTW - check Monday for post holiday candy sales! 😛
 
The spawn is still a bit too young to enjoy Easter festivities. I have had to replace two chocolate Easter eggs already though, as they "accidentally" fell into my mouth.

Really? What sort of easter eggs were they, how small were they? And I'm not referring to the Scottish being er careful with their money.
Actually, this year, my wife and I are taking our granddaughter on a "planes, trains, and automobiles" trip to Washington, D C. We'll fly from Atlanta to Washington on Friday, see ti Smithsonian and the other sites, and then take the train back to Georgia after the holiday. It's something that we did with her father when he was little, and we figured that it was her turn, now.

While there, we will attend a Catholic Easter service with a friend of mine from college who lives in Washington, then, if Claire isn't too mature for such things now (she's 12) the church will have an Easter egg hunt for the kids and allow the old folks to sit around and visit in peace.
 
Well they having a lot this Sunday at the church I go to but mostly it be most of the family getting together for Easter dinner here myself.
That & keeping from eating too much chocolate over the weekend. 😀
 
Two of my kids have birthdays 5 days apart and this year, as often happens, they fall close to Easter, so we are going to combine Easter and birthday celebration.

I bake hot cross buns on Good Friday.
We have a family tradition of a particular Easter breakfast, hard boiled eggs pan fried with Keilbasa.

We have a bunch of candy, mostly chocolate and Nerds jelly beans!

My grandson is going to be at his dad's so we wont be doing an egg hunt, but me and my daughter will color eggs together anyway because we like to!

Easter dinner is going to be the two birthday kids favorite, catfish cooked on the grill, burgers for those who don't care for fish. Mac and Cheese and for dessert a lemon meringue pie and grapefruit chiffon pie.

Tips for the easter egg hunts:
hide the easter eggs 30 minutes before the kids try to find them or animals might be attracted by the smell of choccy.

Do you use chicken eggs at all?
Have you ever considered those firms that sell eggs in supermarkets et cetera. Given that only female chickens lay those eggs, and the chickens cannot be sexed until after they are hatched, ever considered how many thousands of male chooks are killed each day, and not always humanely.
Try watching how they are killed and try eating an egg from a shop again.
 
If I did then I believe that I stop eating eggs all together myself.

That's the advantage of growing up in a family that actually depended on wild game and domestic livestock to provide a break from the beans and cornbread. We would kill as quickly and humanely as possible, and what we killed, we almost always ate. The sight of blood and guts never bothered me all that much.
 
That could be because you knew what was going to happen with it .
 
I usually help out with a local charity Easter Egg hunt for some of the local kids. The ones that usually get neglected, helping out makes me less sad for them.

I tend to buy a small amount of really good luxury chocolate for myself. Dark stuff with a high cocoa content.
That partnered with a nice chilled glass of white wine leads to a relaxing Easter evening. 🙂

Easter & Halloween are two days that make me stay really far away from all candy so I don't eat 5 or 6 pounds .😛
 
No little ones in my family anymore so there aren't a whole lot of Easter festivities. This year we'll do a family brunch then watch basketball.

So far I've have self control and have stayed away from all the Easter candy....hopefully that continues. 🙂
