Spike says he needs to go get something so he goes back and gets his old "leather jacket" haha.
Then he walks by Robin Wood and he says "Nice coat, where'd you get it?" and spike replies "New York"
It's like could he have said that to the wrongest person or what lol!!! Oh I'm just wearing a coat I took off your dead mother...
No biggie really, It just looks good on me is all... :lmao:

He answered a question is all.

Funnily enough I think it was written like that, though it could have been a coincidence.

LOL

Something i've never understood.

Spike 'studied' his Slayer, so he would have known that Nikki had a son.
He knew she was black.
He knew how old roughly that kid would have been and how old he would be now.

He was also aware that Robin's mother was a Slayer.
He obviously was aware of the hostility and contempt Wood had for him.

I don't believe that Spike couldn't have added those dots way before he did.

I think he was too caught up being the First's bitch to think about Wood at all.

That doesn't actually add up much either.

If the Wood storyline was during his time of insanity, fair enough, but its actually quite a ways after that.
OK in Lies my Parents told me the big thing is Spikes detriggering, but if we take that each episode is a week, between Storyteller and LMPTM, it just feels odd that Spike didn't make that connection.

you must revel in your Vahla Ha'nesh goodness!!
Yeah I agree but season 7 Spike was not as sharp as we had seen him before. He was pretty out of it alot of the time, either from the basement, The First or the soul.

I think mostly it can be chalked up to the writers missing it or not addressing it intentionally. There is alot instances of that throughout both shows.

I don't mean to sound rude when I say this but...duh ya think!!

Now Keanoite, I actually like you so please to be too offended by my comment above.

Having said that, your statement here does leave yourself a little open as it couldn't have been down to anything else really.

By the time Get it Done is finished, Spike has made his 'triumphant' return.
I can't take the soul as the argument, the first as the argument or the basement.
Its just too silly.
I can sleep at night over this, but its another example of the problems with season 7.

yeah i guess I was being Little miss states the obviosu with that one! no offense taken...I would have had your reaction too, although I may not have been as polite about it!
Just because Spike didn't say he realized who Wood was doesn't mean he didn't. I found his tone when he said "New York" kind of pointed. It seemed to me that he knew exactly what he was saying and to who. The problem with TV . . . unless someone says something, we don't know what they're thinking, usually.

I suppose it is possible that Spike knew. That little exchange did seem pretty pointed.

Mostly, though, I don't think they wanted to deal with it until the episode that they pretty much set aside with the purpose of dealing with it.

And here's another thing. Presumably, relatives of Spike's victims are to be found in Sunnydale every once in awhile. We know he was active there in Season 2 and for a little while in Season 4. It probably doesn't strike Spike as anything strange that the son of his most recent slayer victim is in league with a slayer. So let's say Spike does know or at least suspect. What would you have Spike say or do? And when would you have him say or do it? There is no making up for killing someone's mom. But at least Robin can have the consolation of knowing that his mom died in the field. Her death was an occupational hazard. She wasn't a helpless victim; she could have taken Spike out. It's not like she was one of Spike's happy meals. Also, he sees Spike now working on the side of good. I don't know what Spike could tell Robin that Robin hasn't seen or can't see with his own eyes. "I'm sorry" just doesn't cut it.

The only thing he can do is exactly what he's doing -- help the slayer fight the good fight. If I were Spike, I don't know if I would have stopped to say, "By the way, yes, you're right; I killed your mum. This is her coat. Sorry about that." I mean, really, what does that accomplish? Also, it seems redundant after the "New York" exchange. Having a soul and fighting alongside Robin and Buffy and everyone else to defeat the First says a lot more than words ever could.

See that doesn't work either.
I give you kudos for trying but that doesn't sit well with the situation does it?

Lets say Spike has worked out who Robin is.
Lets say Spike knows Robin knows who he is.

Spike would say something. Even if he didn't say anything he would have been cognizant of this guy setting a trap for him.
I get why they waited, but it just doesn't sit well and shows one of many faults with packing so much into this one season.

I think you guys are over analyzing this whole thing. Now, granted, Spike knew who Nikki was, he killed her. There was no evidence, however, that he knew that she had a son (the only time Robin saw Spike in New York was that time in the rain, and I'm not certain that Spike saw him as much as heard the trash can turn over, startling him and giving Nikki the chance to break free of his grip. In fact, he would have been much more likely to break off his attack because of the possibility of a second enemy than the presence of a three year old boy. For that matter, given the darkness and the way Robin was dressed, even if he saw him, he probably couldn't have told whether he was seeing a girl or a boy.)

As for Robin being black and of the right age, that could apply to several million men in this country alone. Also remember that Robin claimed to have grown up in Beverly Hills, and if Spike either knew or cared about his origins, he would have assumed that he was NOT from New York, and the coat would mean nothing to him.

As for Robin's animosity toward Spike, the two obvious reasons would be that, as a self styled vampire hunter, Robin would naturally see him as a monster and an enemy, not an ally and friend, and more importantly the competition between the two for Buffy's affections (or am I the only one to notice that? Robin was coming on to Buffy from the first moment they met). Remember the conversation in the garage:

Robin: "You killed my mother."
Spike: "Killed a lot of people's mothers."
Robin: "You would have remembered mine. She was a Slayer."
Spike: "So, that's it, then..."

THAT was when Spike knew who Robin Wood really was. Until then, he had no idea.

Oh, I definitely agree that it was one of the many faults that came with packing so much into season 7. There are a lot of things - a lot of things about Robin Wood, specifically, even - that I think would have worked better as a bigger issue in a later season (even in comic book form) than as a smaller issue in the already packed season 7.

I'm just not sure what Spike would say or to whom. I mean, what do you say about that? I get that you think that Spike should have figured it out and said something, but I'm just not sure what he could or should have said to whom or when.

Ultimately, I think it's just one of the flaws in season 7. Like I said, I don't think they wanted to deal with it until the episode that they pretty much set aside with the purpose of dealing with it. I don't really think it went any deeper than that. If it did, well, then I'm not sure what Spike should have said in order to address it earlier or how that would have influenced the already shaky plot of season 7.

P.S. Did I mention that season 7 is my second least favorite season because of just these sort of things? Season 1 is my least favorite season.

I agree with White Avenger. I don't think that Spike knew that Wood was the son of a slayer until they had their confrontation in Wood's garage. So if he didn't know that Wood was the son of a slayer how would he have worked it out before? I always wonder if Buffy suspected though...

I think white avenger's quote did provide the best evidence.

As far as Buffy suspecting goes, I thought she suspected that he was evil, not that he was the son of a slayer.
