Now, some people on here don't like Dawn, but others do like her. I won't deny that she has her moments sometimes, but she's been through alot and she's not an adult quite yet. But in my opinion, she was a great addition to the show and all of her seasons are AWESOME! And I really like her as a character, and I love Michelle T! So if you're a Dawn fan, come here and say why you like her.

Yay! :D
I'll always defend Dawn. In general that is since it can't be denied that she has bad moments. Which characters hasn't? To me it's important to see the reasons for acting the way she does. It seems to me people have trouble getting into her shoes so to speak. I'm glad they added her to the show.

I completely agree with you. People just have a hard time understanding certain characters and what they've been through. Dawn was never annoying IMO or overly whiny but when she was, I knew why she was being that way and it didn't bother me. I am so glad and appreciative of her creation in the 'verse. She's one of my favorite characters if you couldn't tell lol

OMFG! I LOVE that video!!!!
I have loved and defended Dawn from the beginning. I think she was remarkably well adjusted and not nearly as whiny as people make her out to be, all things considered. In Season 5 when she was at her "worse", she had a lot to whine about, IMO. Not only is her mother sick (and ends up dying), but she finds out she's not really a "real girl" after all, and that a hellgod is after her. Come on, cut her some slack.
In Season 6 we see Dawn coming into her own and trying to learn how to be a self-sufficient young adult, with Buffy's frequent absenses in her life. And by the time Season 7 rolls around, we see Dawn as a mature young lady who helps in any way she possibly can with the mission.

Aw, I've liked Dawn from the beginning! She's a person who doesn't know what her identity is; who she is (literally), and that must be really disorienting. Is The Key storyline partially a metaphor for the teenage struggle (search for identity)? I think her introduction and storyline in Season Five is fantastic (Season Five is one of my favourites).

In Season Six, there were definitely times I was disappointed with Dawn, and was rooting for her to be a stronger person. However, you have to put her life in context. I think she's dealing with a crisis that is much more internal than external, so we don't really get to see it play out (perhaps that's why people do not connect with her as much?) On top of her identity issues, she's dealing with abandonment (her mother and sister dieing; easily the two most important people in her life) and feelings of isolation. The girl's got some major issues.

I guess I gravitate toward characters with serious internal issues; Connor, Dawn. Uh oh, what does that say about me? 😛

Yeah, Dawn!

I have nothing against Dawn's character. I've never thought she was all that bad--some people make it sound like she's the absolute worse thing ever-- and a lot of people criticize MT's acting, but she did well enough with a script that was probably written for an eight year old or something.

Agree about MT. She acted very well as Dawn.

Michelle's acting was great and you're right on the money about the age. Her character was originally supposed to much younger, like 7-11 years-old. The writing gets much better as the series progresses and her character becomes an integral part of the show for me, without her, the show wouldn't half as interesting in he latter half of the series. Dawn quickly became a favorite of mine.

I couldn't stand Dawn in the beginning but she grew on me like a wart or something lol...nah she ended up a good character so show some love cause she doesn't get enough

I like Dawnie very much too. She's easy in my top 5 favorite characters.

She whines sometimes, yeah. But she always has a reason to. It's not easy to live when you lost your mom when you're just 14 and then lost your big sis 3 months later. She's a little annoying at first, but that's very normal for younger sis. I find it adorable. And in S7, you saw how she grew up and like Buffy said, she's gonna be beautiful. And I bet she meant both inside and outside.

People always say she's useless. Some even say she should die in S8. 🙁 She doesn't have power, so what? She's the only part of family Buffy has. And she has only Buffy. Believe me, Buffy would mentally die without her. She's valuable that way. How could someone say she's useless? If someone help do the research and not just sit around, you can't say they're useless.

All my love to Buffy, Spike and Cordelia, but Dawn and Connor will always have a very special place in my buffy heart. To me they are just two really misunderstood characters that most of the time had if not good than atleast understandable reasons for acting the way they did. Sure, they both messed up, but that's what made them human and relatable. I would stick up for them any day of the week. ♥

Totally agree. Well said, Min! And I think that one of the reasons Dawn acts the way she does is because she has always had Buffy there to stick up for her. It's hard being a fully independent person (besides from just being a teenager who isn't supposed to be independent yet) when you know you can count on your sister. That doesn't mean that she's as spoiled as people make her out to be or that Buffy was completly wrong for doing what she did. Of coarse Buffy's going to protect her baby sister, she loves her, and of coarse Dawn's going to expect it when that's the way it has been. That Dawn made an effort and got stronger and tougher as the show progressed is a great sign of strenght considering how Buffy (and her mum) treated her the way they did I think. She could have just leaned back and let everyone continue to take care of her all together, but she didn't.

Saaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmeeeeeeee *squees of Dawn love*
I know lots of peoples compare her to Connor as far as being annoying, but I disagree. She actually brought something new to the show. Buffy had a sibling and it impacted on everyone around her. I'm curious on how things would have been different in the first three seasons, if Buffy had a sister then! Also I just loved the Dawn/Spike relationship.

I like Dawn, because she gave Tara a broom on her birthday 😀

I've never understood why Dawn is so disliked, I feel her pain
it's hard being the youngest in the family, always having to be the 'baby' - it sucks!

I think alot of the dislike comes from the fact shes so whiny. When season 5 aired I was 12 and I couldn't believe how immature she was. I understand completely she has reasons for that but it still didn't change the fact it she was very irritating. I really want to like her and I'm glad she has her supporters but I don't think she will ever be my cup of tea, sorry guys. 🙁

Dawn in Season 7 and to a lesser extent in 6 breaks my heart. There are some wonderfully sad understated moments which really make me feel for her. Michelle is indeed a terrific actress to pull this off.

I can't dislike Dawn (much) because she is a Willow/Tara shipper. Plus, she is hot in S7. And unlike many of the main characters she never murdered anyone. That we know of. 🙂

Though there was that incident with Miss Kitty Fantastico...

But... Poor Miss Kitty Fantastico. 🙁

I haven't always been a part of the "I love Dawn club" and I don't think I ever will really be... but this re-watch, I've realized that she's kind of cute sometimes. Her basic mannerisms and speech patterns are kind of adorable. When she's not complaining and being a total bitca in season 6, she's kind of a nice edition to the group. And she's cute. Sometimes in season 5, I just wanted to give her the biggest hug I could and tell her everything was going to be alright.

Aw, Dawnie! 😀 I didn't like her at first because I thought she was annoying, but then I realized that she was kind of supposed to be. She was supposed to be the little sister who says the wrong thing a lot of the time and makes mistakes and gets in trouble with her big sister. And then we got to see her grow up in Season 7 and she found her place in the group, and that's when I just couldn't help loving her. Dawn is really underrated, IMO.

Exactly! She's SUPPOSED to piss everyone off.
Hmmm... Dawn. What an interesting character.

I used to be number 1 on the Dawn hate train. She really bugged me, and it disappointed me that the writers were so lazy with the character. You can't just take a script/character that was written for one thing and change it to something else. You just... can't. Why couldn't they have written her like a real 14 year old? Whenever I watch Season 6 I can't help but think how silly it is - she's meant to be the same age as the scoobs were in Season 1. Yeah. Bloody. Right.

Anyway, the more I watch Buffy, or maybe as I get older and feel much more empathy for people I find myself loving young Dawnie, particularly towards the end of Season 6 and ALL of Season 7. I loved that her character matured and became a likeable, understated normal person. Personally I preferred Dawn's 'normal-no-super-powers' storyline and characterisation in Season 7 to Xanders 'normal-no-super-powers' storyline/character. I know she was a key, but something about being something, but at the same time NOT being something really tugs at my heart strings.

Potential was an excellent episode for Dawn and I absolutely ADORE her in this episode, I love the maturity that she shows, and courage, and selflessness. I think it's safe to say that Joyce would have been incredibly proud of her - and would have noticed how amazing she is along with Xander.

The Dawn and Xander scene at the end is amazing, so beautiful and really makes me root for a Dander ship.

Also, how damn HOT is Dawn in Him? Holy wowza. Why couldn't the writers have her look more like that more of the time?! Maybe not quite so skanky, but she clearly knows how to bring it!
