The Defamation of Riley Finn

I've read a lot of points that basically read, "Buffy didn't let Riley help her when she was in pain over her mom," which I think I can understand pretty well. My Gramma is going through a lot, and it's taking a toll, but I put on a pretty face for everyone. I don't let my person worry and fuss over me and what I'm going through. It's not a love issue, it's that I really don't like feeling vulnerable. I have a really tough time opening up about things like that because I've always been seen as such a strong woman. I've gone through so much in my life and come out positive and loving, albeit somewhat cynical. I don't like having people feel sorry for me in the least because I don't like feeling sorry for myself. If I start feeling sorry for myself in this situation, there's no stopping it. I can't let myself be too affected because it'll consume me. I imagine this is what Buffy felt. She's even stronger than I am; seen as the one with all the answers, and she's what? 19? 20? Still so much a child. So I don't think it's a matter of her not loving Riley, it's not wanting to seem weak.

I agree that (and my Bangel shipping heart is screaming at me for saying this) Riley was the best boyfriend for her. He was the most supportive, IMO. Did he complain about his life when Joyce was in the hospital? Nope. He tried his best to be there for her. And when he came back in season six, he really helped Buffy gain her confidence back. He helped Faith get back on track. He did a lot for Buffy, even if he did hurt her. I've gotta say, I always yell at Riley to turn slightly to his left at the end of Into The Wild... I understand why he did what he did with the vampires, but I DO NOT agree with it. I think part of it was he wanted Buffy to feel some of the pain he felt. Selfish, yes. Maybe it's just me being cynical, but that's my thing.

Riley was a really good man. He truly loved Buffy. I think he still loved her when he came back with his wife. Maybe she wasn't in love with Riley, maybe she just didn't show it right. She did have love for him. I wish they would have gotten another chance in season six instead of him being married. At that point in her life, I think it would've worked. Plus, Buffy's way prettier than Sam. 😛
