Willow sat on the floor in the upstairs hallway corner. Dried tears stained her face and her eyes were red. She felt as if her entire body was frozen in place. She felt as if her life was over. Tara had left because of the magic. Willow had gone over the edge. Her heart ached for Tara. She wanted to stop but she just couldn't. It was a force, sucking her into a vortex where she could be more powerful than ever before.

About an hour after Tara left, Willow's legs began working again. She slowly was able to stand and walk to her room. She missed her deeply, wishing for everything to go back so she could fix it. Willow wanted to change. It was just too hard. She wanted to be able to apologize.

She knew Tara had to leave. She knew Tara couldn't live with Willow doing memory spells on her. After all Tara had been through with Glory, she could not deal with her soul mate doing things like that. Willow felt like a piece of her had died when Tara shut the door for the last time. Willow sat on her bed and hugged Tara's pillow tight.

No noise came from inside the house. All Willow could hear was her own steady breathing and the rhythmic beating of her broken heart. She wanted Tara to be there with her, to stop all the hurting going on inside of her. Willow's knees gave out and she collapsed. She broke into tears and began sobbing into her hands. Her entire body shuddered with every breath. It was too much for her. The worst part of it all was knowing it was all her fault.

"I'm sorry," she said to no one. "I never meant for this to happen. I didn't want this. Please, Tara. Please come back to me!" she screamed. "Please," she said, almost in a whisper. "I can't live without you. I need you. Come back." She laid down on the floor, curled up so tight to herself that she looked like a small child. Willow closed her eyes. She knew that Tara had done the right thing. For the first time that night, she could finally see the whole picture and she thanked Tara for showing her what to do. She knew she'd never get Tara back. That night she cried herself silently to sleep.

A month later at night

A shadow was framed in the doorway. A shadow of a woman. It was Tara. She walked over to Willow's bed and sat down and stroked Willow's cheek gently. She whispered, "I love you, Willow. I miss you."

Willow woke up. She said. "Tara! Oh...Tara."

Tara pulled her into a tight hug and said, "Shush." (pause) "I didn't want to leave you and I've missed you so much."

Willow was crying silently and gasped, "I've missed you too. But I'm not better..." (pause) She started to sob and shake violently as if this was costing her every ounce of strength she had "I don't want to hurt you again. You aren't safe...here...with me."

Tara looked away because if she looked at Willow she knew she'd start crying too. "Are you sure?" she whispered gently. By now tears were running down her cheeks "Are you really sure you're not ready?"

Willow nodded and Tara said gently "Okay." She got up and walked to the door. "I'm sorry. When you're ready...come find me." She strode down the stairs and through the front door that closed with a soft snap.

3 weeks later

Willow hadn't mentioned Tara's late night visit to anyone. Partly because Buffy wasn't there most of the time and she knew she had too much to worry about and Dawn was well... too young. She made herself some coffee and watched TV all that morning. No one was there all day so Willow was left alone ...all alone. She made up her mind. She wasn't gonna be alone much longer. She was gonna get Tara back. The easy way...
