The End of Spuffy?

Well I hope that the minimize Spikes part in the comics and let him be where he should be, with fanfic writers that are so much better at telling good stories with great characterisations and not just Spike but some writers are good enough to write pretty much all the shows character with love and depth which is something lacking in the comics.

If we compare it to 'Chosen', for fans of Spike and Buffy that would be a pretty big deal (the possibility of them sleeping together and the I love you), but fans of Angel and Buffy got a shout out with Angel turning up, to have Buffy imply there could be a future with him.

With Buffy and Angel as defined soul mates(this is Buffy and Angels pretty big deal) so I'm sure there will be a shout out to Spike and Buffy fans

Personally, I think it is dishonest to try and play both sides of the game. If Joss Whedon really believes that Buffy and Angel/Angelus are "soul mates" and belong together - he should make a final statement and be done with the whole thing. The entire "Who Does She Love the Bestest and the Mostest." has become tiresome.

The readers and fans that believe firmly in the Buffy-Spike relationship will continue to hold firm to that belief - because that relationship was infinitely more compelling and complex than a simple romantic love. The viewers and now current readers of the comic book season will continue to be engaged by the journey of transformation that Spike and Buffy took together. While it would have been terrific to have their romantic/love confirmed, in the end, it is not something that is really needed.

The fans devoted to their relationship will continue to love these two characters, and we will always believe that these characters shared a truly powerful and complex and utterly rich life journey. Buffy and Spike brought to the television audience one of the most complex, compelling and dramatic life and love stories ever - that is something that will never change.

It would be an absolute pity for the comic book season to destroy the TV era history of Buffy and Spike.

BUT - Joss Whedon, if he truly believes in this Buffy-Angel Love Forever, he out to have the respect for his fans and be honest enough to simply say so. Let the fan numbers and fan fallout happen - BUT BE DONE WITH IT ALREADY -

Yeah and I still have problems with how the writers of the show had characters act in order to further their plot, some were just so out of character it really was laughable. I think there are quite a few discussions about out character things regarding Buffy and Angel that I've seen so it's not really new but the comics takes that and brings it to a whole new level.
 
I really don't care about any shippers at this point, to be honest. The most important deal breaker for me, is that the message is still one I can stand behind. I can imagine issue#35 to be a deal breaker in a lot of ways, it will probably be a defining point of the season. I respect every else's opinons on the characters but the message is the big thing to me.

Same for me - at this point, who really cares about Big Love Relationships - I care about what this next issue says and how it will reflect on the moral choices being made by all these characters. It is total nonsense to reduce all the important questions of character and social dynamics that are being presented in this Season Eight.

I wonder if Brad Metzler and Scott Allie and the PR reps quite have the proverbial "pulse of" their readers and the vast majority of today's Buffyverse fans.

You hit the nail on the head. It was clear to me Buffy and Spike loved each other. It was obvious to me that they shared something special and trans formative. Who cares what Joss thinks. I respect him, but at the end of the day - the story belong to the fans. We take what we want from it. We see what we want in it. It is whatever we want it to be. It's our story. Buffy and Spike? They're, for us, perfect, immortal and true, destined to be together (no universe intervention involved).


Spuffies don't need a 'forever' love. Bangels base their love for the couple on the unwavering belief that, in the end, the two will end up together. The Spuffies, on the other hand, have an unwavering belief that Buffy and Spike were true love, even though we don't care if they end up together 'in the end' (by and large). In other words, how we think their relationship will 'end' does not determine why we love them. We ship Spuffy as it was ; perfect love, in our eyes, anyway.

*nods vigorously* This statement deserves double-karma. This is EXACTLY how I feel as well. There's a reason why Spike and Buffy continue to fascinate people - old and new fans alike. Joss never meant, I don't think, it do what he did. For him, Buffy was all about her and Angel's love - that was the whole point - but in the process, he created something much better and much more interesting - Spuffy. Their love trumped anything Buffy and Angel ever had and will ever have, imo.

The thriving online Spuffy fandom should be a testament to the power this couple still has on the its fans. The Bangel fandom can't touch it.

Apparently I'm maxed out on agreeing with your posts, Joan, but I definitely agree with what you're saying. A huge reason of why I prefer Buffy's relationship with Spike is that it was so unexpected and wound up evolving after years of character interaction. To me their relationship invokes much deeper feelings as I felt like I was along for the ride as they gradually went from sworn enemies, to uneasy allies, to friends, to bedroom buddies, and finally to being in love with each other. In contrast to Angel, where almost from the very first episode they were head over heels for each other, I believe that Spike and Buffy have a heck of a lot more depth to them.

I totally agree! And now that we know Angel and Buffy are fated and actually soul mates, and that the universe is using the power of love to destroy the universe and make a new race of Super Beings - it's even more boring and absurd to me, honestly.
Buffy and Spike created love in the most unexpected of places, whereas Bangel was "planned." Lame. 😉 Spike and Buffy transformed their hate for each other into love. I think it's extraordinary. They trusted each other to the end. They came full-circle, as you said. You can't say that about Buffy and Angel.

So I definatly ship Spuffy. But I do see the view of Bangel. Ithink the full cross of spuffy, spangel and bangel would be quite interesting. That is what I would really like to see. eather way I hope Spuffy is not dead.

Since quite a few Bangels view the Spuffy relationship as being more or less platonic in nature, some even going so far as to concede that Spike actually became or was swiftly on the way to becoming Buffy's best friend, then even they would have to agree that at least THEIR vision of Spuffy has every possibility of surviving anything whatsoever that happens between Buffy and Angel.
