The end of the show in 2003...

Bittersweet happiness with a side of excited. I was happy how at how it ended but at the same time it was bittersweet because 'where do we go from here' of the void it left. At the same time I was excited for the future because Angel was still going strong and Spike was going to Angel and there sure would be more cameos! Maybe we could see Buffy again. Maybe we could see Faith or Willow again on the show. Maybe someone new, like Xander.

I think the ending of Angel I took far harder than the ending of Buffy because, with Angel still showing, it didn't seem like the end. Angel felt like it truly was over.

That was of course my reaction at the time... after multiple watches my opinion of the ending changed.

The ending came 2 Seasons too late.

My anger at SMG was only that she signed up for those 2 Seasons after her contract ended in S5. But she made up for it with her frank comments about S6/7.

Also felt relief that I wouldn't have to watch another joyless Season, with people that had nothing in common with my beloved core four anymore.

I wasn't angry, it just felt kind of... empty. To quote Mr. Pole it was a bit of a "where do we go from here" feeling. But again, like Poleman, I was comforted by the continuance of Angel so it didn't really feel like it was over yet. By the time Angel ended it felt way worse. I don't connect easily to tv-shows, or watch them to the end, so it was sad to say goodbye to all these great characters.

I think it was a good time to pull the plug though, it's hard to keep up the quality for long-running tv-shows, IMO.

I was really sad when Buffy finished. I loved these characters and I loved the show, even seasons 6 & 7 (there really was some great writing and storytelling in those seasons) I was dissappointed I didn't get the ending I wanted. I watched the full series about once a year and was sad everytime it finished. But I have recently discovered the comics, which I believe will go on forever 😀 so I am Spuffyhappy again
 
I guess I was disappointed. It was bittersweet in many ways.

Season 7 was, to be honest, a chore to watch even that first time through for me. Some of it was good but mostly it felt so disjointed, illogical and oddly paced. Those last 5 episodes were fairly strong but also felt rushed and incomplete.
There were a whole bunch of character arcs that felt unsatisfactory for me. Xander was the big one, losing his eye and Anya in such a short time must've been difficult, I'd image (because I have to imagine, the show never told me...).
Faith/Wood felt random but I guess I was happy for her finding a guy.
Willow seemed to have gotten her mojo and confidence back after conquering her fear.

The one person who's story felt complete was Buffy- her character arc from S1 was done, finished. I wish that they'd let her character stay that way- retire gracefully.

But I wanted to see what all the other characters did next, some of them still had stories in them.
Angel S5 was okay for me but I was never really invested in Angel, and that last season didn't really change my perspective any.
 
At the time, as a 19 year old college kid, I was upset. It was my favorite show and there was literally, at the time, nothing else on TV that I watched, except AtS. I was upset that my show was gone.

Now, looking back, I wish it had ended two seasons earlier. It has nothing to do with SMG or her decision to renew, that's her choice, she didn't want to leave the show yet. But with Joss stepping back, the show took a nose dive, the quality went majorly downhill, characterization of the main character was all but forgotten about. The show had a natural, mature ending with 'The Gift'. That should have been it. Had Joss stayed on full time, I might have had a different opinion.

As for AtS, the damn cancellation was announced on my birthday. You're damn right I was pissed off, lol.
 
By the end of Season 7, BtVS had run its course. I wasn't happy to see it go but the storytelling had become a bit stale and if the rumours are correct that SMG refused to sign up for more seasons, that shows good judgement on her part - the direction the story was going was getting less entertaining as time went on and this is supposed to be entertainment. I could not imagine the writers putting out another 22 stories (unless the show continued at the Cleveland hellmouth) without retracing old steps, repeating themselves and making the storyline even less coherent than the previous two seasons.

The last Season of Angel was unencumbered by Joss having to run both shows at once and I liked Season 5 of Ats better than the others. It finally looked like Ats was getting the attention it should have had all along. But once it was gone, that's when the withdrawal symptoms started.
 
Well since I didn't see it in it's initial run, I already knew it was going to be 7 seasons.
If I made the show, I would've rewritten season 6 as the final season with minimal Trio & had Vamp Willow & Spike as the 'big bads'.

No seriously. I haven't heard about this before apart from SMG feeling unsure about parts of season 6. What was her beef against season 7? Got any links?

Puh, I am not the only one ;)
I can more then understand that, but considering Brendon was going through serious 'issues' I'm not surprised that his contribution to the story wasn't all that it could be.
 
I guess I felt a mix of things. Sad that it was ending, but overwhelmingly unsatisfied with the actual plot of S7, to the point I remember feeling bored of watching. I carried on with it, and to be honest it did improve on re-watch last year, but ultimately I felt it was all over the place in terms of plot, pacing and character development. I didn't understand how the show I loved could be so low on quality. Some episodes in S7 were great, but the vast majority of it was poor IMO. There were so many plot holes and inconsistencies, and don't get me started on the Potentials.

Don't get me wrong, I still loved the show, but more the memories of other seasons. I was disappointed with S7 and I remain disappointed with it.
 
I only got into Buffy many years later so I didn't have any feelings at the time as I wasn't watching or a fan.

Looking back now I'd say seven seasons is a good run, and Buffy is one of the few shows that has been able to justify going for that long. Despite the flaws in the final season, it was still a good finale. So yeah I'd say I was left pretty satisfied.
