The European Elections

I was just wondering what the results were looking like across the rest of Europe and what people were making of them.

In Ireland, the party in power Fianna Fà¡il had their arses handed to them and their rivals, who normally get a significant less percenatge of the vote have excelled, so parties like Fine Gael, Labour and Sinn Féin have had success they haven't seen in years, or in SF's case, ever.

In alot of ways Fianna Fà¡il brought the country to its knees but I think the recession was the deciding factor.

I'm wondering have other European countries noticed a similar trend, the parties currently ruling their government taking hammering? Or is just an Irish thing?

Mr P - I agree that Labour has probably been stuffed tonight, but to be fair, I don't think any UK Political Party deserves a positive win tonight - even my beloved Conservative Party!

Sometimes I wish we could simply scrap every single MP in all the parties, and re-recruit.

Have an interim Government for like a year while some independant bodies choose PPC's for each party then have a full general election (though its far from the inappropriate time - though when is?!).

Scrap certain practices and shake up the rules too.

Way I see it, the people who spend their lives wanting to be MP's are exactly the type of people who shouldn't be in charge - irrespective of what party they support.

Vive that revolution!

I'm a baaaad girl, I didn't vote. I would've had to go to Germany just to vote, which would've taken 8 hours off my weekend, plus around 70€, so no thanks.

BNP - British National Party

The BNP is generally regarded as a fascist party, the Nazi Party of the UK, and any win is a bad win for them.

It must be stated that the SNP, Scottish National Party, are not in any way affiliated with the BNP beliefs.

The German CDU - Christian Democratic Union
Doesn't that make your skin crawl a bit - Religion and Politics have no justifiable reason to be joined!

On a side note, I really really want Labour out of power (yey Mob mentality!) but considering I dont think any other party would do any better with the actual issues facing our nation, i'd irconically only end up voting Labour in again 😛

I agree with your reasoning but my vote would be the auto-Conservative vote because thats who I support generally (though my opinion does depend on issues and strong manifestos), but as a whole, I don't trust any member of Parliament at the moment, UK or European, so why should I trust them to run the country?

I cannot be bothered with one of the probable long winded back and forths that usually come with responding to you, so I'm just going to say this and no more.
A persons religious beliefs have absolutely no place within the governing of a people.
The State and the Church should forever be two separate entities.

Over here Geert Wilders and his 'Freedom Party' won big time. I think they actually came second to the Christian Democrats. I actually shudder to think what this would mean for the next national elections. I mean the people who actually vote for the EP here are the people who care about politics, and not the people who'd tend to go with the first racist bastard who comes along. I have no problem with conservatives, but these guys, along with the BNP, and the far-right parties from Hungary, Italy, Poland (and some other countries, too) are really scary.
