With camera's coming up on every street light and store, I don't think anyone will have any privacy soon.

I am so glad you brought this up. And I agree. I was watching the news the other night, which is rare to me. There was a piece on privacy in homes and how we are all being watched. They got into how if you own a computer and a webcam, you're more than likely being stalked. They went ahead and demonstrated it and they drove down one suburban road and they were able to pick up the feed of 5 webcams inside peoples homes.

It's things like that, that I turn around and say "And you're paranoid about Facebook comments being available for your friends to read?" ???

Holy cow! I don't have a webcam but I'm getting a laptop soon and it has the camera built in. Do you know if they can pick up feed even if they aren't using the webcam? I'm so paranoid that I'm going to have a little post it over that camera. o.o

Deactivated my FB account. Multiple times. Don't really see the use. And I don't like seeing pics of myself.

I don't use facebook much at all, mostly only for the chat occasionally or if I want to tell someone something who I know uses FB quite a bit.

But I am definitely worried about the privacy aspect of it. With the growing use of the internet, more and more laws are going to be passed to control it. The police already have been using Facebook to get information from alleged criminals through adding them as "friends". As well as the numerous articles I've seen lately having to do with freedom of speech on the internet. The guy who twittered jokingly about a bomb to his friend and was arrested, or the troll who made some nasty comments on a public memorial FB page and was also arrested. I just think that the less unprotected information you put out there about yourself, the worse off your going to be. I don't care about the whole stalker scenario, but I could easily imagine a Big Brother scenario on the internet in the future.

That's the criminals faults. If they add people as friends (accept friend requests) from people they don't know... they're idiots.

Privacy on the internet is something you have to use your brain for. I'm not ever worried about it because I rarely post things I don't want people to see. And if I do, I take all the necessary privacy pre-cautions before to make sure whoever I don't want seeing whatever it is won't.

In that 60 Minutes with Mark Zuckerberg, he says that people should be able to control their own privacy. People should have lots of detailed privacy settings that are personal to them. I believe facebook allows for the personal privacy settings and I've never felt there's an issue with facebook's privacy policy. Bottom line: if you're nervous about it, don't put it on the internet.

Well, As long as your laptop is on, unplugged, it is still possible for them to hack your laptop. With desktops, I think it had something to do with fiber optics

Yes I had read that article, and also read another one, but can't remember what it was about. Authorities are definitely trying to control the internet now. It's good, and scary at the same time.

i the the main reason Facebook is failing massively currently is because they refuse to do anything about their security problems...

anyone who uses Failbook regularly will know what i'm talking about when i say the amount of 'spam' and 'ad-ware' / 'malware' floating around Failbook in apps / 'like pages' / fake status' and the rest is atrocious...

it's got to a point where various adware aware companies, Sophos to name one of the best, actually have a page dedicated purely to Failbook and the amount of crap that's on their, getting warnings out to people on a weekly basis about the number of new threats found weekly on Failbook...

Adding to that the current craze of ''fraping"... something i still don't understand... it just makes me wonder why Failbook haven't actually done anything about their security systems yet...

I beg to differ. As I have said before, I am a huge Facebook whore. Use it everyday and sometimes I don't even log out (I love receiving comments lol). Anyways. If you know how to use the privacy settings and learn not to click "Access my account" on certain apps, then you should be fine. I hate to say it, but the reason so many people have had malware and spam issues with Facebook, is because they are ignorant(and I mean this in the literal way, not the offensive way) as to how to protect themselves. I have NEVER had issues with Facebook.
