After watching season 7 of Buffy and season 4 of Angel, I was left with two questions.

1) Why did the First Evil want Angel to kill himself in "Amends"?

2) How much of the characters' pasts did Jasmine interfere with when she was a Power That Be in order to be born?

1) Why did the First Evil want Angel to kill himself in "Amends"?

The First knew that Angel would take the amulet to Buffy four years later. Think about it. It was the amulet the stopped the First. The Scooby Gang and Slayers did kick ass, but there were thousands more uber-vamps to kill. They would have kicked ass and died, the uber-vamps would escape the Hellmouth, and the First would become flesh. The only thing that prevented this was the amulet. Had the First succeeded in "Amends", the end of "Chosen" would have been a lot different.

2) How much of the characters' pasts did Jasmine interfere with when she was a Power That Be in order to be born?

In order for Jasmine to become flesh she needed seven people: Angel, Darla, Connor, Cordelia, Wesley, Lorne, and Fred (I have no idea how Gunn worked out in the scheme of things).

Angel
Interference: Brought back from Hell at the end of "Faith, Hope And Trick", saved by miraculous snow at the end of "Amends".
Reason: Would save Cordelia in "City of", would impregnate Darla to create Connor.

Darla
Interference: Brought Angel back from Hell causing him to move to LA. He met Wolfram & Hart, who ressurected Darla to torment and kill Angel.
Reason: Would be impregnated by Angel to create Connor.

Lorne
Interference: Sent out of Pylea so that Fred could go there.
Reason: To get Fred interested in wormholes, which were used to get Connor back from Quar-Toth.

Cordelia
Interference: Brought Angel back from Hell causing him to move to LA, where he saves Cordy in "City of".
Reason: Would be impregnated by Connor to create a vessel for Jasmine.

Fred
Interference: Sent to Pylea.
Reason: To get her interested in wormholes, which were used to get Connor back from Quar-Toth.

Wesley
Interference: Assigned to be Faith's Watcher and fails causing him to be fired and move to LA.
Reason: Would kidnap Connor to save him (thought he was in danger), get his throat slit, and Connor would be rekidnapped and sent to Quar-Toth (so he would come back in his late teens).

Connor
Interference: Sent to Quar-Toth.
Reason: To age faster, come back to LA, and impregnate Cordy to create a vessel for Jasmine.

And to think it all goes back to season 3.😱

I think too much!😀

I thought in Amends The First wanted Angel till kill Buffy..and when he wouldnt he said he'd kill himself..
Jenny: You're not supposed to die. This isn't the plan.
Jenny: But it'll do.
The First wanted Buffy dead not Angel.

It wanted Buffy dead, cause she has been the most strong slayer ever. Besides by that time, the line of the slayer was already wrong, cause we had Buffy and Faith.

Buffy should of stayed dead in The Prophecy Girl...

Also, Fred did not get Connor out of Quor-Toth. Although that could be some influence of Jasmine in itself. How exactly DID Connor get out of Quor-Toth?

But our thread creator does make a good point though, in that the First didn't just want Angel to kill Buffy.

"Lose Your self in her." and the dreams all point to one end-Angel was to sleep with Buffy, lose his soul, and kill her. Making Angel into Angelus once again and possibly into a minion for the First. Thus, no amulet.

Also, it definitely seems that Jasmine was trying to keep the First down. Think about it. How much do you think Ms. Peaceful-living wants Uber-Vamps and a coporeal First Evil running rampant? She had AI killing all the regular vamps. It would be very interesting to see what would have come down between these two.

Fascinating discussion. Here's my theory:

When Buffy returns from the dead and there are two slayers alive at the same time, it breaks the one-slayer rule created magically by the Shadowmen. The demon energy unleashed by the Shadowmen, can now be let loose indiscriminately.

It must be channeled through the scythe and a slayer.

Apparentlly The First can now use that corruption in the slayer line to set itself loose on the world in physical form, and release the hordes of hell.

To do this it needs a vampire, a slayer, and the scythe. The obvious conclusion would be The First plans to use a vampire to turn a slayer, then use the scythe to funnel evil energy through her, much as Willow funneled Slayer energy through the Scythe and Buffy in Chosen.

In Amends The First doesn't want to kill Buffy or Angel, but it can still make either plan work without them. It still has Faith and Spike.

In Season 7 The First does not want either Buffy or Spike to die. Even in sleeper The First doesn't want Spike to kill Buffy, only to taste her.

The Jasmine connection is interesting. We do have to assume Jasmine would be aware of The First's mechinizations.

It's not surprising she would allow the first free rein though. Remember she turned LA to darkness, and allowed the demons to take over the city as part of her coming out. She seemed to need evil to have a presence in order to legitimize her existence.
