As of Sunday, August 1, I am officially retired, complete with pension check, Social Security, Medicare, and all of the associated accessories and accouterments. The only thing preventing Mrs White Avenger and me starting our around the world cruise is the fact that our first grandson (Spike) will be born within the next two weeks (updates forthcoming)

Congrats! Babies are amazing. My nephew is 3 months old next week. And, of course, on retirement!

Congratulations :-)
Is your son aware that you have already (horrifically) named the child? 😛

Congrats on the retirement. When's the cruise?

Well, his official name is Addicus, and I absolutely refuse to call him "Addie."
Congrats on the retirement and early congrats on your grandson.
I hope when you go on your cruise you have a great time.
P.S. I love your grandson's name. 🙂

I see how Spike was clearly the next obvious choice then.

😛

Liam sounds too much like "Lame." (Unless we're talking about Liam Neeson)

lmao!
To all of those here who seem to feel that my son would have any objections to my calling my new grandson "Spike," that was the name that he and his wife had put on his pre-birthday party cake just last week. Besides, now, honestly, which name do you think would better suit the future World Tae Kwon Do champion and the star of the smash hit TV series, "Walker, Texas Ranger, The Next Generation," better? Addicus Bradley, or Spike Bradley?

Liam! :p
Congrats on the retirement and hope everything goes smoothly in regard to your new grandson on the way. :smile3:

Congrates 😀

Congrats on the retirement! Must be exciting knowing that you don't ever have to answer to a boss again! Now it's just the wife you have to answer to! And I think spike is a good name to 😉

Hey! Liam is a fine Irish name!

Addicus Bradley makes me think of To Kill a Mockingbird. And congrats on retirement and the new grandson!

Hey! Liam is a fine Irish name!

So is "Patricia Michelle Gilhooley," but you almost went into spasms when I wanted to use it in a fic.

When I first read the thread title, I thought you were going to say that you were leaving the boards for good! I was really freaked for a moment...I was like, NOOOOOO I CAN'T LOSE A FELLOW SPUFFY (and a friend; you know you're one of my very favorite people on here)

but thank God, this is not the case. Congrats on your retirement! And the cruise sounds awesome!

Relax, Love, I'll be irritating Bangels here for a long time yet.

Gee, I wonder why?

Gilhooley? It sounds like some sort of jellyfish or something. Or actually, it sounds more like one of the "Irish" episodes Murder She Wrote attempted.

"It was Gilhooley on his way home from Mass that killed the man with the shillelagh!"

*Nightmares*

Actually it was a feminine version of "Michael Patrick Gilhooley," Kate McLintock's (Maureen O'Hara) father from the John Wayne movie "McLintock,"

Awww, congratulations WA!! 😀 I find it AWESOME that someone your age loves BtVS so much. My dad is right around your age, and also retired, and I've never been able to get him to watch an episode; he just isn't interested because it isn't "Gunsmoke" or "The Andy Griffith Show". LOL He IS starting to get into watching "Roseanne" on TVLand, though, so maybe if they ever start showing Buffy on there he might end up watching! LMFAO!

Hey, Marshall Dillon was awesome, and if you haven't heard Griffith's "What It Was, Was Football" monolog, you haven't ever really laughed. But tell your dad that Paladin could outdraw Dillon easily.
Congrats on the retirement, WA!

You know, though, that with my welfare pension, I kindasorta had you beat on the "first retiree" thing, right? 😀

Well, I've out of work on disability since January, 2008. Can you beat that?
When I first read the thread title, I thought you were going to say that you were leaving the boards for good!

If he meant that, he sure wouldn't have been the first. 😉

If you see the retirement as a good thing (which I guess) huge congrats! A cruise sounds wonderful but you can't have a much better reason to postpone it.
