The first telephone was a most useless invention, what had to be invented before the telephone was made good?.

You needed a second telephone.😉

You had to have a battery, a call bell, the carbon button microphone, the dynamic (magnetic) speaker and the switchboard. Early telephones also had a generator that put out about 85 volts to replace the battery. This is as basic as it gets:
