Just re-watched Amends on LOGO. What do you think The First wanted? Angel of course believes the lie that The First brought him back, we see that that's not true. But why are they messing with him? Is it solely to get him to kill Buffy? We don't see a big, ultimate plan out of The First like we do in season 7, & I wonder what this Big Bad non-entity wants with an individual Slayer. Sure her death would be great, although another Slayer would be called anyway. It just seems like they would have bigger & better things to do. Or do they simply want Angel dead? Or at least to lose his soul? Something have to do with the Shanshu prophecy perhaps? Perhaps it/they know about the amulet & the ensouled champion having to wear it to close the hellmouth in season 7? What do you guys think?

To be honest, I thought a lot about why The First wanted Angel dead, and the only conclusion that came to my mind was the one you said in the end of the post.. maybe The First knew Angel's destiny, and that he'll be the one who'll bring the amulet to Buffy.

Never really thought about it, I'm just thankfull for that wonderfull episode ^^

I love it, too.
I always felt the First was messing with Angel because Angel was vulnerable at this point. Conquering a strong figure like Angel would be a huge triumph to the First, and certainly take him out of the equation to get to Buffy. Angel felt weak and felt like he lost his purpose and the First seemed to play with that, IMO.

I think that the First Evil knew, either from some sort of prophecy or supernatural intuition, that a vampire with a soul would be instrumental in bringing about its defeat. Since there was only one ensouled vampire at that time, it targeted Angel. Later, when Spike regained his soul, it realized its mistake and targeted Spike.

I've never though about that..it's an interesting prospect and it could very well be true.

This makes sense.
What's still a mystery to me is the fact that the First prefers to look like a dead person, but it took the form of Buffy, Spike and Drusilla as well, who are not dead....was it just to drive Spike insane or just kind of special feature...? LOL

Primarily to drive Spike nuts as those people had a profound effect on him. He loved Buffy and had gone all around the world with Dru.

Technically Spike and Dru are dead - just the living dead. And Buffy has been dead, so that's why the First can look like her.

yes and that too
Maybe The First knew Angel could be a great warrior as Angelus and wanted back by its side. Or he knew the prophecy or maybe he sensed that Buffy was a unique slayer and could give it a run for his money. These are all theories but White Avenger's one looks like the best...that would make perfect sense.

You guys are probably right with that.
Buffy, because he loves her and Dru, because there were to together for such a long time.
And when the first has taken the form of Spike himself, just to make him thinking, that he is his own enemy IMO....I know, that sounds ridiculous, but I got the impression somehow....LOL

It might have been a bit less confusing about who the First Evil could impersonate if they had said that it could appear as any person WHO HAD DIED, rather than "just any dead person." That way, the reason that it could impersonate Buffy would have been easier to understand.
