I really liked The First and how they could transform into looking and sounding like any dead person. But I was just wondering who else you would have liked to see the First look like? Was their any other dead characters from the show or perhaps even AtS that you think would have ben interesting to see manifested as The First?

Tara, definitely. A scene with Tara and Willow would have been incredible, quite possibly one of the best scenes of the whole season. Or at least it would have had potential.
Too bad Amber Benson didn't want to do it.

Just this
I read once that they had planned to have Angel appear as the First Evil at one point, but there was some kind of schedule conflict. That could have been interesting, especially if no one knew immediately that he wasn't the legitimate Captain Forehead.

I have read before that Tara was meant to appear! It would have been incredibly sad seeing The First try to manipulate Willow as Tara. Angel would have been interesting too. Seeing how Buffy would react seeing him would have made a good scene I'm sure. Here is a long off but it could have been cool seeing the First make itself into Jesse, Xanders old best friend. I feel like everyone forgot about Jesse!

Yeah, the First as Jesse would have been awesome!
I would have liked Angel. I understand why it didn't happen, but I was hoping for a bigger Angel arc in S7 (I loved the episodes he was in though), and having The First show up to Buffy as Angel would have been really cool. I liked the scene she has in the graveyard with the vampire-psychologist, I thought that was really funny, but Angel would have been something else entirely. I think every one of the Scoobies got sucked into believing what The First was selling in "Conversations with Dead People" (only Willow really figured it out), but Angel showing up, and Buffy realizing it wasn't him, would have been awesome.

Beyond Angel, Cordelia would have been neat (although I'm not sure if she was dead at that point on the Angel series. I think she was, but I could be wrong). She would have been perfect for Xander. Jesse, yeah, he makes sense, although I'm not sure if he would have had the same impact as someone like Cordy would have. And for sure, everyone forgot about him. Xander must have some sort of superhuman powers for dealing with grief, because in one episode he's totally over Jesse.

I totally agree... I really hate that Amber didn't want to come back as The First, 'cause I think it would have made The First a lot scarier to know that it can get to anyone it wants in any way.

No, I'm so glad that The First was never seen as Tara. It made Tara seem like all the more pure and untouchable. ::heart::

I actually would have liked to see Jesse, and I would have liked to see Jenny again in Season 7. I understand though the actress would have looked different considering it was 5 years later, but I think it could have been a powerful scene for Giles, just a nice remembrance of Jenny.

Great call on Jenny
Yeah I always wondered why they never mentioned Jesse again. At least have Xander just look like it bothered him. I think Jenny would have been really great for Giles! I didn't think of her but that would of been amazing to see Giles and her.

JCoatsworth and HisMrs have hit it dead on for me. Tara was the one character which could have made The First seem truly scary to me. As WileyDairyGnome rightly says, Tara is such a pure character that defiling her memory could have been really powerful. The effect it could have had on Willow, who was still struggling to come to terms with the loss of her partner and her magic addiction, could have been a really interesting plot point and character development, for both The First and Willow.

I agree on Tara.
I'm convinced that Conversations with Dead People would've been even better if Amber Benson had come back as the first.

As others have said, Jenny and Angel would have been interesting. 🙂

See, I always thought she had a scheduling conflict as well. I could be way wrong about that. She was only going to appear in Conversations With Dead People, is what I also remember.

Has anyone read Stephen King's IT? The First kind of reminded me of the Evil in IT. It had no real form, or you couldn't really see it. It would appear as your worst fears for the most part. So I don't really think you can see it.. or destroy it really

Nothing to fear but fear itself. Oh hang on they did that already 🙂 I totally get your point, though and that is essentially what the First was. It was an awesome concept which was marred by not having a physical manifestation until Caleb showed up and started kicking butt and taking eyeballs By that point it was sadly too late for me.. And that Tara thing in CWDP. I wish Amber had done the ep, it would have been sooooo powerful.

I think it would have been interesting to see Deputy Mayor Allan Finch appear to Faith. It would be interesting to see how she reacted to the man she first killed since she's now one of the good guys. Would the reminder have sent her back evil?

Never thought of that, good pick.

It was a shame that the First was limited to the boundaries of time. Just think what could have ensued if Giles was brought back from the future. He (the First) would have known the outcome and set disinformation to try and change the final outcome.

Missed opportunities for The First to appear as...

I know this has probably been discussed before, but who would you have loved to see The First appear as? And if you want to, you can expand on who they would have appeared to and for what purpose?

I would have liked to see Kendra appear.
I'm actually glad Tara didn't appear in Conversations With Dead People. The idea that Willow didn't "deserve" to see her because of what she'd done, played on her guilt and made it more believable (to her, and to us) that the ghost was genuine. However, I don't think it should have been Cassie. Maybe Jenny?

And what about Vamp Willow? That would have been fun!

I hadn't thought about Kendra before. She would have been a great choice, even if she wasn't in the series that long.

A big one for me would have been Angel. Seeing The First impersonate him would have been really, really interesting. Or you know what else? Not just Angel, but Angelus too. That would have been cool.

Seeing Angel/Angelus would've been amazing. Love that idea

Ohhhh I hadn't thought of Angelus. That would have been so cool.
Nice thread!

Thank you for this topic. 🙂

I would've loved for the first to have appeared as Kendra. I know some people might question what would be the point of her returning, but the 1st's main strength was delving into peoples psych.

Kendra could've been used in a way to exploit Buffy as a slayer. Since it was believed a Slayers destiny was to die, The 1st could've used Kendra's appearance of a reminder of her impending fate. Even though Buffy was resurrected and died 2 times prior, the 1st could've used Kendra to use her past against her. Then making her feel guilty about letting her get killed while she ran after her boyfriend. I'm not exactly sure, but I always envision The 1st taking the form of Kendra to taunt Buffy. It would have also been a way for us to get to know the character more. She was so short lived. Somehow through that death, the 1st would've used its knowledge of Kendra's life, and we could have ultimately learned more things about her.

I also would've loved Jenny Calender. I always felt that it should've been her talking to Willow and not that girl she didn't even know.

At least we saw Jenny as The First in Season 3...
