Another German here...I agree with you guys. The games so far have mostly been lame (except for GER - AUS *cheer* 😉 ). What really surprised me was that the teams that were said to be favorites were all disappointing more or less. And they can't blame everything on the ball...

The North Koreans were just amazing yesterday. I was telling my mom that she needs to watch that game because she's going to experience some real football (soccer) magic there. But just like 4 years ago nothing like that happened. In the end my mom and I admired North Korea's strength to play such a good game and even score once.
 
Not that i'm really rooting for any team, but I didn't expect France to get owned by Mexico... and then eliminated in group stage??? DAMN YOU GUYS 🙁
 
People are actually surprised about this? How much harmony do the team have? France is the only team that can challange Argentina for having the nuttiest coach.😉 Now I probably jinxed it and they'll do great from now on...


Maybe I should be clear about "surprised by this" part. I didn't mean losing against Mexico specificly but getting bad results.
 
Wow, another nice upset with Germany losing to Serbia 🙂 Maybe Germany were unlucky with the red card, but at least it shows they aren't as invincible as everyone thought after their first game.
USA and Slovenia drew, which works out nicely for England 😀 I believe David James is starting in goal tonight?
 
I have no words. It was an absolutely shocking game and our players looked like they couldn't care less if they were at the World Cup let alone qualifying to the next round.

I don't know where we go from here.

First Germany lost to Serbia, that was already painful enough. Although I can live with it, cos now chances are higher that we will become second in our group, which is a great way to avoid Argentina in the quarterfinals.

But then that England game? Seriously England? If one player can't even pass the ball to another player without missing my several meters, I don't think you really belong in the knock-out rounds. Well, it's not over yet, England can be very happy at least Slovenia and the US also played a draw.


Which brings us to the last game, which imo was the best of the game. I thought it was over for the US, but then they had a great comeback. Pity that last goal didn't count (although I still don't understand why)...
 
Lets face it. If England can't win with Capello as coach they are out of options if they can't get Mourinho or maybe Hiddink. They still have time to turn things around. Playing well isn't important in the group stage. Getting through is. But it can be fun to always think so highly of your team (average english fan) and so often be disappointed.
 
The thing is, this time it's not about thinking so highly of the game and being disappointed. It's about thinking that the England team, made up of so many world class players can actually play football, can play a game where they actually pass TO EACH OTHER as opposed to the other team. It's about expecting your team to actually TRY which England absolutely did not do tonight.

I don't mind drawing, or losing, if my team plays well. I support Hull City and spend a lot of time having to live with that, but when you don't even try then you deserve how your fans feel about you afterwards.
 
Jeez...England were truly terrible tonight. Rooney and Lampard weren't so much awful as anonymous...they might as well have not been there at all. The team looked like an average level Sunday league pub team against very poor opposition...we do not deserve to progress any further on tonight's showing 🙁 Man of the match IMO was between Barry, Johnson and Gerrard...but none of them really had any reason to be proud.

That was so the case tonight, the english players looked like the proverbial Deer in the headlights. I think because there has been so much in the press about the fact that England should maybe play 4-4-1-1 with Gerrard behind Rooney, it's filtered through to the players & they seem to have lost confidence in the way they play. One thing, I cannot understand is that Capello's first substitution was a straight swap, Wright-Phillips for Lennon. How does Joe Cole not get the chance when Capello "changed" it? Also, England lined up with Gerrard on the left, yeah right! He spent most of the game in the middle & Ashley cole was left trying to provide all the width on that side on his own. There is something rotten in the Denmark that is the England camp & if they play like that & Slovenia play the way they did in the 1st half against the US, England could have problems.
 
We were dreadful tonight, absolutely dreadful. Its astounding how quality players like Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney kept losing the ball, passing astray and just looking like park players instead of professionals.

That said i still believe we'll get through. Having said that i thought we would beat Algeria comfortably. Wednesday can't come quick enough, hopefully we can get an early goal because if we don't we are in trouble. Slovenia only need a draw after all.
 
England were just awful.... there was literally nothing good about that performance.

Capello is apparently a renowned tactical genius, but some of his choices are, frankly bizarre. Can anyone decipher the point of the Lennon/SWP substitution? They're virtually the same player, I don't see the point in it at all.
 
Totally agree regarding Shaun Wright Phillips coming on for Aaron Lennon. It was a like for like replacement which made no sense considering how the game had unfolded up to that point.

Tonight's game between Denmark and Cameroon was so much better then yesterday drival. It saw both teams having chances and going for the win and most importantly we were treated to some entertaining Football. Lets hope on Wednesday England joins the party.
