Whedon On Why SMG May Not Be On Angel

Taken from Dreamwatch magazine:

"It's not a done deal and, in fact, we're not sure if it's going to happen, I'm sorry to say," reveals Whedon. "There doesn't seem to be the interest that was expressed last year. It may be that she got out and just said, 'I really can't go back to that right now.' It's a very different environment after you've left something. So I'm not sure if it's going to happen or not."

Things are also not looking good for the Buffy animated series. Whedon says that all the scripts for the show exist and every cast member (except Sarah) say they were willing to do the voices for the show. But the reason it won't go ahead is because of budget. Whedon said he will only do it with a good budget so it would look cool but "nobody's willing to foot that bill. So that's been a snag. I sort of let it go because everything else has been going on."

As for the Ripper spin-off (a Giles-based mini-series) Whedon simply says "Ripper is, again, a victim of scheduling and timing."

awwwwwwww man...
that blows
Joss is amazing, why won't people give him money??
Stupid people, lol

Eh, I'm not surprised on any of that info. I don't think the Animated Series will see the light of day anytime soon. Ripper may never surface. And as for Buffy on Angel...give her some time.

I understand, but SMG is just turning her back entirely on her Buffy-Fans....not meaning to sound selfish

How is she turning her back on her Buffy fans? She did a 7 season run of a show. The show is over. She has no obligation to be Buffy anymore. The ending of the show wasn't her idea. It had just hit its end. Joss thought it would be best to put it down after this seventh season. Sarah is not, in any way, turning her back on her fans.

It was both SMGs and Joss's decision to end the show. But I dont see how SMG is turning her back on Buffy fans by not appearing on Angel yet, its ont like she is trying to run away from the show. She gave the show 7 years of her life, and its only been about 6 months since the show ended, she doesnt need to jump straight into it agian.

In her defense... She's contributed alot to Buffy and, i feel, to what we get out of it, and I for one hold nothing against her...

However, i do feel like she is less involved in the Buffy world than the rest of the actors. Never seen her at a convention, signing autograpgs, etc. And, hate to say it, but what does it say that she's the only one not willing to voice the show?

Also, i'm glad that the show went out on top and saw a good ending, rather than being cancelled or something. But my money says that had SMG agreed to stay on there would have been an eigth season.

Theres no doubt in my mind that if SMG did not quit there would be a season 8. Have any of the other actors or writers said that wouldn't do another season?

That there are more important things in her life, than BUFFY. What's wrong with that?

I'm not a big follower of SMG or Buffy but even I notice how she never goes to conventions or does promotion for the show. If the rest of the cast can find time to do this why cant she?

Again, why should she? SMG probably doesn't like going to fan conventions. And she did promote the show through media interviews.

Ok, I'm just gonna say what I think. I think that SMG is a diva. No conventions, no voice overs in games ect. I think fame has gone to her head. Felt good to get that off my chest.

[Jumps into plane and flys off before SMG fans can catch him]

I actually agree with you No Angel. SMG owes her Buffy fans a lot more than she's giving them credit for. An actor can't get to where she is without talent, I agree, but if the fans of Buffy hadn't turned the show into such a popular thing, SMG could kiss her career goodbye.

The least she could do is offer a voice over to the character in the cartoon.
