I'm wondering if you guys think that the future that Buffy went to with Fray will be set in stone, or perhaps the purpose of Buffy going to the future will be to change it. Kind of like what Heroes and Charmed did. Will Buffy try to figure out whatever turned Willow to the dark side and stop it from happening? Also do you think Willow knows about her dark future and if she does does she know everything? Will Fray cease to exist if the future is changed, or will she be one of many slayers. Also I'm wondering if it was Willow that perhaps got rid of the slayer line, and if she did how did it appear again.

And finally if all magick disappeared from the planet for many many years, how in the hell did Willow survive, when it was clearly magick that caused her to be an immortal.

I hope Willow hasn't become evil but the previous comics kind of give thye message that Williow has started invoking dark magic(Saga Vasuki) also Buffy accuses Williow of betraying which she denies. Plus, no slayers in the future sounds fishy especially since Williow cast the spell to make all potentials slayers.

I really hope Willow is not evil.

I would love it if somehow Buffy was able to prevent the future of Fray from happening, but I doubt that will happen. I'm afraid Buffy as a series will not have a happy ending with season 9; I guess maybe we shoulda stuck with Chosen.

I think for the moment we are supposed to not be able to figure out why Dark Willow reappears in the future. But I figure if vampires can get back, than so can Willow.

Odds are as all Vampires demons were being killed or taken down. One of them bites some person as they did when demons were last kicked out of this world

Fray showed us what was supposed to happen originally, to end the age of magic and require there to be no Slayer line anymore.

Now that has been altered, the events as we saw in the flashback may not happen at all. Its possible a new future is being shaped by the actions we see in season 8 and into 9.

Joss pinned down too early what he wanted to happen, hes now giving us a twist to say 'nope, its different now' which is half cop out, half good twist.

Its possible the spell was never meant to happen. That Buffy would end the age of magic, in dying during that or old age the line ended with no foe to fight. The Shadow Men even referred to her as the Hellmouths last guardian, so it was predestined to be closed by her anyway.

But the spell, changed the balance greatly, creating 1800 demon possessed warriors. That can't simply have zero consequences. Buffy and Willow watched as several Slayers abused their power, then Buffy herself became a criminal and hid it from her friends, committing an immoral act that she never would have before.

Willow caused the spell, imagine how she feels having let an army loose in the world, which now considers itself above the law and is committing illegal acts and justifying them as being necessary for the cause.

Even with the Demons gone, we have an army of Slayers who would have no enemy to fight, and they won't sit idly by and grow old when they have power.

Willow of the future may well be herself in stasis, placing herself out of time and our reality to reappear when she the chance to 'undo her mistake' if you like, take back what she started with the spell.

Actually, what we saw was what Fray was told by Urkonn. He might have been repeating only legends as he knew them, or he could have intentionally lying. everything that Fray knows, including the Watchers' Chronicles that she just so conveniently found was all part of a convoluted plot aimed at getting Buffy into the future, filling her head with misinformation, and sending her back to her own time thinking that she knows what's going to happen and how to avert it. What she doesn't know is that the actions she has been tricked into taking will actually start a chain of events leading to the suspension of the Slayer line for so long that the demon world, unmolested by their greatest enemies, has time to form and put into action a plan almost certain to assure them world domination (well, I told you that it was convoluted!)

I haven't gotten my copy of Issue #17 yet, so my theory might be rendered impossible by the events there, but given the facts provided by the "Fray" series and the little events of #16, it seems quite possible to me at the moment.

But getting back to the original question asked, no, I don't think that the future is unchangeable. A writer whose name I can't recall at the moment proposed what he called the "Delta Theory," comparing time to the series of separate streams of water formed in a river delta. His theory was that every major event in history forms two realities (for instance, two realities would be formed depending on whether or not the Allies either won or lost World War 2), each of which then progresses independent of the other, each forming its own branches and sub-realities, leading to a multi-dimensional universe in which, not only COULD anything happen, it ACTUALLY HAS. (More convolution, right? Anyhow, that would explain Anya's famous shrimpless dimension.)

When I was doing the canon thread I came across a bunch of little talking points which might be seen as clues here.

Buffy will come back to the present day "changed".

Time is fluid. What happens at any point creates ripples.

Buffy is the final slayer spoken of in the Fray series. This means after the final battle, if there still is one, Buffy will disappear into a dimensional portal.

The scythe matters.

Fray kept the demon monkey from ToTS, and more importantly she named it "Gates".

Dark Willow tells Harth, "What happens in your time will cause your time to come."

Dark Willow is still evil, but Buffy's hardship appears to make her sad, even though it is her causing it. She claims time is more important than love.

i agree 100%

as much as i think we all want the future to chang (and it can), i dont think joss will change it. He has a plan and it set on doing it.

personally i like to see fray future to be a separate timeline, but i doubt that will happen ether

I'm not sure you understand what I said. Time is fluid means it's changeable.
If the future remains the same, and it's already preset, then there probably isn't much reason to continue reading... I think nothing is preset, and we can continue to expect the unexpected... unless you're reading spoilers, of course.
