This has always been one of my favorite trilogies in the book series.

The titles are:

1. Out of the Madhouse
2. Ghost Roads
3. Sons of Entropy

All three of the novels are written by Christopher Golden and Nancy Holder.

Werewolves. Trolls. Sea Monsters. Rain of toads. Skyquakes. Sunnydale is being besieged by dark forces. But even with Buffy providing her unique style of damage control while Giles is hospitalized out of town, it's more than on Slayer can handle - especially wince the abominations are coming from a centuries-old portal through time and space.

Somehow, the hell-hole must be found and corked at its source. For Buffy, Angel, and the rest of her gang, that means a road trip to Boston where an ailing Gatekeeper resides over a supernatural mansion that has been, until recently, holding the world's worst monsters at bay. Once there, Buffy discovers the catastrophic truth: the magical structure houses thousands of rooms, all of which are doorways to limbo's "ghost roads," and all of which may bring her face-to=face with the most nefarious forces in hell and on earth - forces bent on horrific plans far worse than the Slayer ever imagined.

There are three books that all tie in nicely together and they're an interesting read. All of the things that come out of the rooms in the mansion are fascinating enough, not to mention the journey on the ghost roads in the second book.

Its been years since I read these books but they were my all time favorite Buufy books at the time. I loved the bangelness in them and the introduction of the ghost roads, along with Lucy Hanover. They were really good books to read.
 
I read these 3 novels too! They're very creative! I love the ideas that the author thought of!
 
Brilliant. That is all I have to say.

That and if they are ever going to do a Buffy movie don't you think they should just film this novel? They could do it Lord-of-the-Rings style and have it in three separate movies. The more the better, hehe.
 
These are by far the best Buffy novels. And by the best authors as well. I prefer Christopher Golden to Nancy Holder slightly more but together they work amazingly well.

I love the characterization in these, I think it's very true to the show and the interaction is awesome especially the core four.

Love that Giles had Michaela but again sad for him that she betrayed him somewhat.
 
I was recently going through the Buffy books that I have read and I think it was near enough 20 or so and these ones stood out for me. They were very nicely tied together and I remember wishing they had made them into a TV episode as it would have been great. I tended to like the three part ones, like the Unseen Trilogy.
 
This is the first (and only, so far) BtVS trilogy that I've read and I must say they're my favorites of the books. The author is absolutely brilliant and I love everything about them!

Sad though, I've been wanting to re-read them and now I can't find the first book... I suppose I may just have to buy it again next time I get paid!
 
Of all the Buffy novels I read, The Gatekeeper Trilogy was my favorite! I always thought "If they make a Buffy movie, this needs to be it". It was so epic and amazing, and at the time it was written, all the characters played a part. 🙂 LOVE IT!
This forum makes me want to dig my books out and reread them all. 😉
 
I thought that too about these being good enough to turn into a film. I felt that these books were true to the characters in the show, were other books have felt like I was reading about a completely different show altogether.

I'm reading "Immortal" now. I think that's the book where Lucy Hanover is introduced. Am I right there? So "Gatekeeper" is after that? I have a few gripes about Christopher Golden, and more with Nancy Holder. I did think "The Lost Slayer" was good, though not as clearly written as I might've hoped.
 
Well i finally started Gatekeeper 1 last night and had to put it down. The first chapter has Oz 'babbling' about a bass guitar. I can't imagine Oz babbling. My brain hurts trying to imagine it.

I bought Ghost Roads from the grocery store one time a long time ago.(So it feels) I think I read the whole book. But I can't remember if I finished it or not.lol.
 
I read these when I was alot younger. Really enjoyed them alot more than the other lame ass BTVS books that are out there. Would definitely like to read them again though. I shall go on the hunt and report back!
 
I read the first book in the trilogy and thought it was decent. Not brilliant, but decent. I'll have to find the time to read the other 2.

However, if these are truly considered the best of the Buffy novels, I'd be hesitant to read the other Buffy novels...
 
I'm on the second one now and totally agree with you sylvanscribe.

It's kind of funny them being in England though. And the Cotswolds being 'East and slightly south of London' (rather than West and slightly North) ... and them needing all night to drive there before the sun comes up! Rental cars aren't that slow!
 
I read this set years ago and remember loving them! They were probably my favourite BtVS books at the time - I still have them on my bookshelf though havent read them in ages
 
I LOVED the Gatekeeper's Trilogy!!! It's been about a decade since I read them last!! I have a shelf devoted to my Buffy books and I haven't read any in years...I'm so ashamed!! Great trilogy!!! maybe I should read it again!!
 
This thread makes me want to reread them, too. 🙂 This trilogy is by far my favorite out of the novels I've read.
