Hi, you know the episode where Joyce appears as a ghost infront of Dawn and she says something like...when it comes to the end Buffy won't choose you? What is she talking about?? and at that point it is actually Joyce's ghost or The First?? Thanks. 🙂 x

Yeah she appeared in Conversations with Dead people. I think the offical word is she was the First. I believe Both Jane and Joss have said it. And I guess it was just trying to make Dawn question Buffy which she did!

As BEG said...In fact.

CWDP co-writer Jane Espenson.

AICN: You wrote the Dawn scenes in CONVERSATIONS WITH DEAD PEOPLE. Now that BUFFY is no more, some fans wonder what Joyce was talking about when she said, "Buffy won't choose you." But surely that was just The First messing with Dawnie's head, yes?

JANE: Yes indeed.

Joss Whedon

Audience: Conversations With Dead People - what was attacking Joyce, was that the First?

Joss: "That was the First, she was just messing with Dawn to sort of create a little rift. And then Buffy sort of not choosing her works; it was a benign thing, a warning casting the seeds of death

I realise this is an old topic, but I saw the commentary for this yesterday, and I thought this was quite a cool thing.

Marti Noxon, who wrote the Dawn scenes in that episode said, that there was a part, that she cut out, when Dawn said "They told me I couldn't bring anybody back," Then Joyce said "Maybe I'm the First," meaning, like the first person to be brought back, BUT also meaning she's The First...if you get that?

I always believed that Joyce was really the First in that episode, but I always also believed that, given the circumstances later, she should have told BUFFY that, not her. On the other hand, Buffy's dream sequence, where her mother tells her that she has to get some rest? THAT, I felt was definitely something else.

Yeah, but it could have just been a dream, it could have also been like something like, Joyce talking to her, i don't know really.

Did anyone else get really freaked out by the way Joyce came to Dawn? Like with the TV, stereo and radio thing, then the hearing her talk, then seeing her with that demon thing and stuff? It was really freaky, in my opinion.

i always find in buffy (and most other things is the same sorts of genres) that when the 'scary' stuff is based on emotional/mental ties it is far more effective and i get WAY more freaked out
so it was very effective and i was more freaked out by that stuff than for instance the ubervamps later on in s7

^^ Me too. The part with her mutilated looking body, with the demon above her defiantly was the freakest part. lol.

i still shudder when i think about that
and how gutted Dawn must have been after going through that whole evening

Yep. I wonder if she knew that it was the first, even when Willow said, I mean, if I were her, I'd want to believe it was really my Mother.
