The Gift - As A Series Finale

P.S.
Re: Seeing Red: Yeah, that whole season seemed like an attempt to write around the finale. Which was, admittedly, pretty good. I was never really a fan of Tara, but Season 6 was clearly her best season, and she still had a lot left to offer as a character.

Yeah..... I wonder why he never comments on that.

he actually comments enough to claim that he was going to give Buffy a wish and Buffy would resurrect Tara. After coming back to life was the worst thing to ever happen to Buffy

I guess that resurrection would be the Whedon version of "Ooops! My Bad!!!"

Maybe it was due to Joss' decision of delegate day to day duties and more story power to Marti so knowing it he planned the whole story a little bit ahead in comparison to previous years (when he had time day to day to develop). He said they had the first 5 episodes (he had Bargaining as one episode) already broken before he left for vacation to Cape Cod and write the main bulk of the musical when normally they broke less episodes before the hiatus. Then Marti said (6x01/02 DVD commentary) Joss had the start and ending of S6 planned but not the middle part. So yeah: it sounds the season plan was Buffy was in heaven and Dark Willow after Tara's death plus Spuffy all over lol.

20 plus years later and the locked in the cupboard defence still goes on 😂
Whedon was not running things day to day but he still had final say so over scripts. The Balcony scene in Dead Things wasn't even in the script but he put that in for example.

I'm not defending anyone. I said Season 6 felt to rushed to the Dark Willow as a result, maybe, of Joss' way of ran Buffy that year (same as Angel) with Marti as co showrunner and day to day boss. Thats the difference of the author running it day to day vs the Angel way. Marti had somewhat the same power that year than Greenwalt or Minear at Angel. So we all have an idea what Joss did and what Marti did. Nothing to defend, or attack or wathever.

Marti, Vulture, July 2018:

With season six, there was this announcement that I was running the show and Joss was going to take a back seat, but in reality, anybody who knows Joss knows that his idea of taking a back seat is not every single thing, you know? <---- Angel system.

But I did have way more input over that season and some real muscular influence on the direction of that season in part because I was really vocal about wanting Buffy to make some bad mistakes. <----
Marti's power that year. And, btw, she did great. Wrong assumption: big fan of hers, I even commented to her. She even asked me to not take too seriously some of her comments during the DVD commentaries LOL.

Resurrection of Tara would have been nice.

But the worst death on Buffy was Jenny Calendar. Giles never got another good romance.
