Did anyone like this episode? (I couldn't find a proper episode discussion thread) I quite liked it anyway, and here are some reasons:
- I like a stand-alone episode once in a while, especially when things start to get extremely dark and everything, like at this point in the season, wirh the whole apocalypse thing going on.
- Flashbacks to the times when the fanged four where not dead or soul-having!
- It was funny, but not completely gratuitious. There was some urgency, some mystery.
- The Italian stereotyping was funny but not, like, negative or anything (I mean, I'm not Italian, maybe Italians found it offensive) The maffia-ish character of the Immortal and his gang, the lady of Wolfram & Heart, it was al "typically" Italian, but it was not too much. Or that was at least how I perceived it.
- Andrew!
- Angel in a motor jacket
- And finally, Spike and Angel were almost like a married couple. Actually, I would love to see them as a married couple. I can already see them doing groceries: "Let's buy tomatoes" "You always want tomatoes, let's buy brocoli" "No, tomatoes are cheaper" "Oh, bugger off"

Sometimes it became almost slap stick, like with losing the head, chasing the car on a Vespa (Although them two together on a vespa is not an unpleasant sight, I must say). That was all a bit cheesy, but I thought it was all nicely balanced out. What do you think? Am I the only one who liked it?

I liked this episode, I thought it was funny in places, and exciting in others.

However, I do have a few issues with it.

If SMG wasn't available to do the episode, I think they should have canned the 'Buffy' character altogether. It was obvious it wasn't Buffy, her 'lines' really sounded like they were dubbed in, which they were, and while the two of them fighting over her was funny, I seriously doubt that they couldn't catch up with her. The revelation that comes in S8 cheapens this episode even more for me. The fact that Andrew blatantly lies to Spike's face was not something he would have done in Sunnydale. Granted, the 'revelation' was only written because the fans were unhappy with Buffy's adventures in Italy, so I can understand how this episode deoesn't correspond anymore.

Also, the fact that, in the episode immediatly before this, Angel was seemingly diving off the deep end and into W&H's evil objectives, becoming the 'Company Man'. Yet, in this episode, the events of 'Time Bomb' are completely forgotten, only to be picked up again in 'Power Play', the next episode. I think this episode would have been better suited coming in before 'Time Bomb'.

As usual it's been quite some time, since I've seen this episode, but as far as I can remember it was quite interesting 😛 and also nice in a way. I agree with Lyri, that the buffy appearance was a bit of disturbing, as clearly was no Buffy. It marked for me the highwater, of ignorance by the studios who know everything better about telling the story then the guys actually telling it. They should have gotten Buffy to do it.

I liked the style and why should any way anybody feel offended by a piece of fiction. Stereotypes are always nice and also worth a good laugh. Normally it's not mend to be presented in an offending way, but just for fun. And fun is always good, even though it can be a delicate art. However, Buffy and Angel was nowhere near anything that could offend people. At least I think so.

BTW: I came accross a nice cartoon talking about what a perfect European should be like and it said, that he should be controlled as an Italian, whatever that means. I prefer the European to be as humoerous as the Germans and sober as the Irish. Perfect combination.

I love Spike and Angels relationship in this episode, its hilarious. But I agree with Lyri that it probably would have been better suited earlier in the season. It was nice to have a funny break from the seriousness though even if it didn't exactly fit in. The Buffy stuff was funny, but yeah, kinda annoying that they changed it all later in the comics. I suppose it showed how much Andrew had changed from Sunnydale by lying to them. He was doing what he had to to protect the slayer (if you twist it that way).
And Angel in the funny jacket reminded me of Booth for some reason when I watch it now 😛

I love this episode, it gets me giggling every time. I agree that it broke up the seriousness but that mabye it would have been better suited earlier on because it is a bit jarring with everything else that was going on at the time. Spike and Angel are so funny in this episode, love the whole argument about who saved the world more, the fight in the club, the scenes with Andrew, pretty much just everythin in it. Except ofcourse the Buffy double they used, that always annoys me.
 
This episode was like a buddy-cop movie featuring Angel and Spike...I don't think there's a more terrifying or unappealing thought...

HATED it.
 
This could have been a really great episode IF they had been able to get Sarah for a cameo, but once that became impossible, the whole Buffy element should have been scrapped. There was plenty of plot, action, dialog, comedy, whatever, to carry the story without her and remain as good if not better an episode.

No way! Very funny episode. I just re-watched it yesterday!

To be completely honest I was a little dissapointed in this epi. I felt kinda cheated. I had high hopes prior to the airing of this episode to see some Buffy action. I wanted what everyone else wanted....For them to find Buffy and for her to tell them which one of them "frosted her cookies" the best. HA! (sorry.) But as we all know, that did not happen and instead we got stuck with Andrew relaying messages, and some chick with a fake italian accent spitting on people.
 
A lot of what I thought has already been said. It was often funny, and I came away with a feeling of enjoying it, but...I did also feel cheated with the Buffy thing.

One thing I thought was an awful choice was Spike's duster being destroyed too. Angel in the leather coat was brilliant - and very Booth, now you mention it Aussie! But, Spikes was important! Why destroy it?!?
 
I am in the find it hilarious camp. I do think it would have been better if they'd been able to get Dawn to appear in it rather than Andrew, as this was the original intent.
