The 50 best TV shows of 2018: 50-31

Thoughts so far? Any you would rank higher?

Think I would have The Little Drummer Girl in my top ten at the moment at least. But then they've seen more TV than me😉

Quite a few of them I've not seen. Expect big hitters like Sharp Objects, Handmaid's Tale and Deuce to appear in the top half.

What are some of you favourites of the year?
 
Thoughts are that I haven't watched anywhere close to 50 shows this year. I've watched a part of maybe 2 or 3 mentioned there. How has Bojack Horseman got to 5 seasons? It looked short of ideas on the couple of episodes I gave it.

Never seen it, but I've heard good things. How long are the seasons?
 
What a load of, what shows are you referring to?
Are those shows being shown in any countries outside the UK.

I would think at least a fair amount of those on the first half of the list have probably only been shown over here. I would think most of the dramas have screened outside of the UK at some point. It would depend on if they could get picked up abroad.

Yeah, I don't recognize many of those titles, so I feel like I am excluded from having an opinion about this list. Not many of them sound terribly interesting, to be honest. I'm a Science Fiction type of guy, so 2018 was all about catching up and watching all of The Expanse, for me. The Orville too. Those were my personal favorite discoveries this year, among a few others.
 
Well I've seen a grand total of zero of those, and I'm in the UK!

Sounds like a reality show, if a reality show makes the top 50 list it seems like a poor year in TV for me. But then, that's because I'm clearly a snob and don't think much of reality TV, at least not in terms of quality programming. But then I hadn't even heard of most of those shows, and have watched none of them, so maybe Love Island really is the superior choice.

Reality show's are not my thing either, but I suppose as a Natural newspaper the Guardian have to represent a broad range of tastes.
 
I am not surprised Bojack Horseman is this low on the list, but I feel like it should not be. Having said that I am only halfway through season 4, so maybe the quality declined. I can't be sure.
 
How does the Guardian have a top 50? Are they literally just listing the shows that were airing? Love Island is in it? lol they're really grasping.

But then who cares what the Guardian has to say on TV? Quite an arbitrary list.

England used to produce quality television shows as the norm. Now the norm is for poor quality crap.

I agree sadly. I think we play it too safe when it comes to drama now. Certainly a lot of the BBC and ITV drama's fall into that. That maybe starting to change with more co-productions with cutting edge networks. Killing Eve and The Little Drummer Girl are good examples of that.
