I thought the Hellmouth was that portal thing where the Hellmouth Spawn comes out of. And when Buffy went down there in season 4, it was just a big endless pit thing. But in season 7 Buffy says "I'm going down into the Hellmouth and I'm finishing this once and for all" so, wouldn't you think that Buffy would be fighting the Hellmouth Spawn instead of the vampires?

Anyone else confused...?
 
Everytime I think about this, my head starts to hurt. So, from now on, I just chalke it all up to "creative liscence" on part of the writers.
 
When I started watching it it was season 6 so I just thought when she went into the Hellmouth in season 7 it was just normal, but since then I've seen past seasons and when she dived into the hellmouth in season 4? I thought it was a little odd. Maybe after they built the new school they added steps?
 
Yeah, and do you remember Prophecy Girl and the Zeppo, back then the Hellmouth was a big demon its self :S
 
yes....lets just say that because any other way of figuring it out is too confusing.lol
 
I think the First pushed the Hellmouth Spawn out of the way so it couldve get ready for its army since if its army overpowered the human population he would become coporal and the hellmouth spawn didnt really help him out with that.
 
Well, maybe in Prophecy Girl when that thing said "they will be his army", maybe it didn't apply to the Master's vampire army, but to the Firsts Turak-hon army.

oh well...
 
Clever thinking, but after this they immediatly referred to the Harvest, so I think this was not what they were talking about.
 
Please..Somebody write a letter to Joss and simply ask bout it..Coz don't think we'll ever agree..

Allycat - what did they say in the Harvest?
 
They didn't say in the Harvest they said it in Prophecy Girl, just after the line you quoted.
 
aaaagghhhhhhhhh...my brain hurts, too much info! Fire bad, tree pretty....I've always wondered, and have decided to agree with the changing idea...all other explaintions are much to confusing for my tiny brain...

Maybe because of all the constant activity in the hell mouth it always changes. It was flat, then a big hole, the flat/a big hole. Then again, it might just be crative license on Joss' part to have it how he wanted. He couldn't have had it as a big hole in series 1 & 7 cos they wouldn't be able to walk & fight (& drown) on it. But she also couldn't have dived into the hellmouth if it wasn't a big hole is season 4 (getting a pic in my head of Buffy jumping head first down a hole & landing on a ledge!!).

Also, at the end of series 3 the school was blown up, especially the entrance to the hellmouth. Maybe the blast blew away the ledge for people to stand on and created a huge cave. Then, when they built the new school and over the next 3 years a ledge was built for people to stand on.

That was a lot! *Goes for lie down*
 
So you're saying that when they blew up the school, it broke part of the cavern and that's why all the Turak-Hon's had to climb up to get to Slayers? and hey! maybe that big cavern was for the Hellmouth Spawn, but it just moved so they could stand around somewhere.

Doesn't Buffy say "fire bad, tree pretty" in Graduation Day part II originally, David_Boreanaz? Although I think she says it again in Beer Bad, maybe im wrong though...? I just said it because I knew that's what buffy said when she had low mental capacity at the moment...lmao

The hellmouth is much to complicated for me...ow, brain hurts...
