The Hitcher (the remake)

I bought 'The Hitcher' this week on DVD. I was pleased with it. I saw the original from '86 before I saw the remake. There were a couple differences in the movies, but none that were too shocking. I'm surprised it did so poorly at the box office. I really dug the ending.

Anyone see it? Your thoughts?
 
Haven't seen it yet. I'm in the process of "acquiring" it though. And even if I love it I doubt I'd watch the original, I'm not a fan of 70-80s movies generally. There are lots of exceptions, of course, but for the most part I can hardly bear to watch them.
 
You don't like movies from the 70's and 80's? Those are some of the best ones, especially horror movies. Why don't you like 'em?
 
Its very good. Although I hated Sean Beans accent.

Sophia Bush was excellent in it 🙂
 
I take it youve never seen the original then? And why did you put the boyfriend in inverted commas?
 
I watched it. It wasn't terrible, but I prefer the original. The originals are almost always better than a lot of these half-assed remakes.

I do like Sean Bean, though. Been a fan since LOTR.

Apparently you've never seen the classic horror movies from the 30's and 40's. Lugosi, Chaney, Karloff, Carradine...those were the true masters of horror. They scared the he** out of their audiences with something sadly missing in the special effects extravaganzas of the 80's. They knew how to act. Lugosi created a truly sinister Dracula. Everything that came later was just a watered down imitation. Karloff and Chaney created something that had never been even considered before: monsters as sympathetic creatures. People in the audience actually cried when the wolf man finally died, despite the mayhem he was responsible for. Those were the giants of horror. They've never been equaled, let alone surpassed.

Yes but putting the boyfriend in inverted commas suggests he wasnt actually the boyfriend.

Whatever, not important. Just bugged me.
 
I enjoyed it. Good movie for the type of thing it's meant to be, which is to say my expectations were low but I was positively surprised.

I haven't seen the original Hitcher, but read that the new Hitcher was closer to script of the original Hitcher 2.
