The Hockey Lock-out

I didn't see another thread for this yet so I decided to start one. So how does everyone feel about this whole situation? I don't knoiw how many hockey fans we have here (maybe it's just Killerdwarf and I... lol).

Personally I'm a little undecided about who I support. The players make to much and so do the owners... lol. I just wanna watch hockey. What I am sure about is that whatever happens it will not benefit my hometown Maple Leafs, whichever way this is settled will be bad for the Leafs and other high budget teams like Detroit and New Jersey.

So what is everyone else's take???

I imagine Jenny, and n4h at least have an opinion on this topic. Maybe momentary grace too.

I feel the same way about this as I did with the baseball strike 10yrs ago. It's a bunch of spoiled brat millionaires squabbling with a bunch of spoiled brat billionaires. Not a lot of sympathy here for either side!

We talked about what to do with HNIC (that's Hockey Night In Canada, for all you non-canuckleheads) after my last game. We figured the CBC should send out a taping crew to a tyke (5-6yr old) game, tape it, and bring it back to Toronto. Have the play-by-play guys do a voice over, and have Don Cherry and Ron MacLean do an intermission show just like the real thing (it was my idea, but they honed it by making it the little little ones...they're so cute!). I figure ratings would be HUGE. Otherwise, I'll just go and play and skip the watching...I'll watch Buffy reruns instead!

Have you guys been watching Making the Cut. Won't it be be funny if someone wins an NHL spot, and there's no NHL.

I don't know exactly why but the lockout just doesn't bother me. Maybe it's because after watching the World Cup that over-extended NHL season seems like a draggy letdown.

I think it's also because I'm angry at my team (the Vancouver Canucks) anyway. Brian Burke turned it into team Sweden, and the new guy is content with that, so to be honest I can wait 4 years to see team Sweden do the big game choke thing in the next World Cup. I don't have to watch them do it for Vancouver in the NHL.

Plus there's the Bertuzzi thing, and he probably wouldn't have played much if at all this year anyway.

I don't know, I'm just not going to miss NHL hockey this year, and, for hockey in general there's still the Giants.

KD - That's a great idea for HNIC, I would watch it just to get my fix. Me like... Me like...

N4H - LMFAO about Making the Cut, I never thought about that before.

I definitely agree with KD about millionaires fighting with millionaires. Spoiled brats! I definitely see what you mean about Vancouver N4H, especially about the whole Bertuzzi thing.

I figure I'm going to have to start playing hockey again just to get my fix (I stopped to save money). My fiancee is certainly happy about the lock-out since she doesn't lose me 3-4 nights a week.

Truthfully I'm more sick with seeing all these rich guys on tv claiming that it's not about money. If they came out and told the truth (ie. I'm rich, but I want more) I would respect them a little more for admitting their greed. I just wish that the St. John's Leafs had come to Toronto this year so I could at least go to a game.

BTW for all you craving hockey do yourself a favour and find the song by the Arrogant Worms (a Canadian comedy group) called "Me Like Hockey" it should lighten your spirits a little bit.

Sorry about your Canucks, n4h...I saw you go from fan to frustrated this spring, and I really felt bad for ya. It was like when Doug Risebrough dismantled the Flames in the early '90s...tore my heart out. Have faith, they will rise again...Calgary did, but I'm old now...and I wasn't then...

I said this to Jenny a while ago, and it bears repeating: if you want to see real hockey, get up early Saturday morning and go to the local arena and watch the Timbit hockey...the 5, 6, and 7 yr olds...ignore the idiot parents (there are some even at that level) and watch some people who play the game for the love and fun of it. None of the kids in those leagues will go far, but they will grow up to love the game. It really will make you fall in love with the game again!
