I read a thread a while back that stated the Hunger Games had been cast, but its since been sent to the cemetery ;(

I'd just like to say that I JUST finished the first book of the trilogy and I'm fidgeting in my seat trying to count down the hours until tomorrow when I can buy the second book!

As far as the casting goes, I too am not really happy about Josh Hutcherson being cast as Peeta. I really love Josh as an actor but I picture him too young looking and not strong enough to portray Peeta...I kind of really wish Liam Hemsworth was cast as Peeta instead of Gale. Hmph.

As for Katniss, Jennifer Lawrence will do just fine and I can really see her portraying Katniss perfectly 🙂

I saw somewhere that Lenny Kravits was cast as Cinna.....uh no thanks. Bad move, bad move.

Woody Harrrelson as Haymitch will be entertaining but not really what I was picturing as far as looks go.

I am personally not a fan of Stanley Tucci ever since I saw him play the evil man in Beethoven and then the creepy guy (whose name escapes me) from the Lovely Bones...I just can't. I really dislike him. ;(

Effie I was picturing as much older than Elizabeth Banks but I think she will do a good job, they are both so bubbly and awkward it will be an okay match.

Hmmmm what else...all I can say it I'm so excited for the second book 🙂 Tomorrow can't come any sooner so I can get to Borders and start reading.
 
It's a popular book series, I think it's a trilogy. I haven't read it yet but I'm planning to. They are making a movie about it with an expected sequel coming out next year. I'll let someone who has actually read the books fill you in on the storyline.
 
The last thread on here sparked my interest and I went out and got the books and really enjoyed them. They are fairly quick and easy reads and are also pretty addicting; I ended up reading all three books in two days!

The casting doesn't bother me to much; probably because I read about it before reading the books. Although I do have to say, I'm having a hard time seeing Josh Hutcherson as Peeta; when reading the books I pictured him much bigger. I'm excited to see the movie, I wonder how violent and graphic they will be.

It's a young adult science fiction trilogy that has become fairly popular. It follows a young girl living in a post-apocalypitc North America now known as Panem. The books sort of questions government control, "Big Brother" type tactics, and examines what happens when you value entertainment more than humanity. There is also has a love story/triangle woven in.

I can't tell if I like the style of writing or not...I love the storylines and the love triangles and the inner struggle between humanity and the need to obey your government but something about the book was eerily upbeat. For such a gory, inhumane, heart wrenching storyline I felt there could have been so much more detail rather than rushing through the most important scenes. There was multiple times when I was looking for a huge climactic chapter and it just wasn't there. Every problem is resolved with such ease it kind of made me upset. Yet I still couldnt put the book down lol. Another thing about the book was how glamourous the author made the games seem....I feel like if she would have given us more about Katniss' true feelings towards the whole thing and how sick it really was that it would gave been a more emotional story. While reading it I convinced myself that Collins intentionally created a glamour effect to the games so readers could form their own opinions and thoughts about how sick and inhumane the whole game was. However Im not sure that was the actual case. Arrrgh. I'm so conflicted, I really love the book and can't wait to read more but I'm hoping the second book is written with a little more attention to detail and the true feelings inside our protagonist.

I get what you're saying. I wasn't crazy about the writing but to be honest I wasn't expecting anything amazing in that aspect. There are def. times when the story gets slow, but even then I pushed through to find out what happened to Katniss.
I started to read the first book, loved the first part, but got bored during the second part where they were preparing for the Hunger Games. Maybe I will start reading it again when I get some free time
