The Inititiative: Pretty Sadistic.

And, btw @ BotD, I totally agree about that I don't really oppose the testing (also on animals) but its just, most demons and vampires are slightly more evolved than your random lab rat, so I think it would be more fair to dose them with some drug, do their research and kill them, than to let them suffer in cages.

That's how I felt about the whole deal. I see the REASON for the experiments and stuff, but to leave them in the cages to suffer while they do whatever the hell they want with them, that was the part I found a little disturbing about the whole deal. I mean, they're demons so of course they shouldn't be treating them WELL necessarily, but to keep them prisoner for long periods of time while they run their little tests is just kind of sadistic, in my opinion. They should have just killed them instead of letting them stay locked up in there.

Kill them?

WTF. How they hell would the team of scientists learn anything from them if they killed them.

The whole point was to find ways to fight, mame, kill and exploit the powers of these beings.

Jeez Louise, some people seriously need to get into the real world(even in fictional lands).

And some people need to quit taking stuff so seriously on a freakin' message board... No need to start acting like an ass, dude.

Whatever... No one's about to cry here over someone who apparently gets his rocks off to be a jerk online just because someone doesn't agree with him. Get over yourself, would you?

Watching season 4, there's one thing about the initiative that really bothers me: Why do they keep portraying them as Good Guys? (Apart from the fact that they create monsters, of course) I mean, why does no one say anything about the fact that they let vampires and demons starve to death (because they can't hurt living creatures)? Buffy just kills them, which isn't that bad since they were dead aready, but vampires and demons with a chip in their head just die slowly and painfully, I can imagine. Sure, vampires can go to the butchers to buy blood, if they have any money. But what about demons? And they keep them in cages, use them like lab rats, poison them, torture them and if they don't eat/drink what they give them they allow them to starve to death. That's not very nice, right? Why don't they just kill them? It's just sadistic. If they were animals, animal rights movement would have already shut the whole thing down.
It's not really their fault, right, so why is treating them like shit a good thing?

You know what it's kind of starting to remind me of? It's kind of like if they were doing lab experiments at Quantanamo Bay? Whataya think? Do you think the Bush Whitehouse would ever chip terrorists? 😉

Joss was a little bit prescient don't you think? It's almost like he saw it coming.

See how sneakily I snuck this thread back on topic? Let's stay there OK?

LOL No problem... And YES, I can totally see Bush chipping terrorists, just like the Initiative. 😛 I can also see Condie Rice being the Maggie Walsh of the whole deal, too! 😛

I always thought that the initiative was very sadistic. Their it's not completely human we kill it attitude really got me angry. It's like racism only no one feels the need to stop it because oh there just demons but what about werewolves? They are only dangerous three nights of the month but oh they need to be killed to? I mean There is nothing right about what they were doing I mean ever certain members thought Buffy was better off dead because she was not completely human.

I never actually liked how Buffy seemed to toy with the vampires or demons if she was annoyed she took it out on the demons to me it just isn't acceptable. They need to be stopped yes some do but some do not what about Clem or Lorne? You can't go mindlessly killing something just because they are different. Okay so Buffy usually kills them straight away but experimenting on them is horrific I am against animal testing and experimentation to. Seen as some characters see demons as nothing more then animals. Well guess that's part of why I just admitted about being all for animal rights.

Have you seen True Blood? They have an interesting perspective on the possibility of vampire rights.
