hiya everyone

okay as u may off ghessd i like willow alot i have her picture and her name so i tink i no quite a bit about her.......

wel i have noticed that she always calls on hecate in her spells??? its not only willow amy and amy's mum did it aswelll?????

wot does it mean?
is it a godess's name?
why do they always say it?
why is it so important?

I think Hecate is like one of the major god's that exist in the Buffy version of Wicca as I have not heard of Hecate being a big god in real Wicca.

Also in I think it was Macbeth, Shakespeare used a character called Hecate in the play...Just a lil nugget of useless info for ya lol

Hecate is the Greek goddess of the crossroads. She is most often depicted as having three heads; one of a dog, one of a snake and one of a horse. She is usually seen with two ghost hounds that were said to serve her. Hecate is most often mispercepted as the goddess of witchcraft or evil, but she did some very good things in her time. One such deed was when she rescued Persephone, (Demeter's daughter, the queen of the Underworld and the maiden of spring), from the Underworld. Hecate is said to haunt a three-way crossroad, each of her heads facing in a certain direction. She is said to appear when the ebony moon shines.


She is v.powerful goddess...

Yeah. Osirus was father of Horus (who became the new sun god after Ra).

Osirus was killed by Set (god of night, and later Destruction) who split his body into 14 peices and scattered them across the land. Isis later found his peices and joined them together, enbalming the result, thereby making Osirus the first mummy.

Horus was raised by Isis to exact vengeance for his father's death, and eventually fought Set, winning the battle, but losing an Eye in the process. The eye became the Moon. Horus then went on to find Osirus's heart, and Put it in water. Horus then brought his father back to life, and had him drink the water with his heart in it. Osirus drank and was made whole. Horus then gifted Osirus the moon (which became a symbol for sacrifice) and Osirus became god of the Underworld. Osirus was considered a benevolant god, and said to be very fair, as he gave the dead a new chance of life after their death.

It's a little more complex than this watered down version from what I understand, but this is the gist of it.
 
In Wicca you can choose which god/goddess you want to worship..Most people choose their dieties from Greek,Celtic or Egyptian pantheons tho...Some spells are connected with particular god..

And my prevoius explanation is mix of my knowledge and one of on-line dictionaries..I'm not that smart🙂

Much obliged to you both, Khaych and ana8. Some of this stuff, especially the Greek stuff is rattling 'round in my head, but it doesn't always come out when summoned...I know very little about Celtic deities...any suggested readings? They gotta be short and sweet like the ones above though, I'm right in the middle of reviewing Arthurian legends...cool, bloody, but a hard read...

While on that note though, I've always been curious about wicca, but haven't been able to find an informational site that isn't either trying to sell me stuff, or a site that isn't based primarily on TV shows and/or fantasy novels. Does anyone have any links to what they consider the 'real goods'?
