Okay, mods, move this if you want because I'm at a loss here.

ALERT ALERT....POSSIBLE SPOILERS for Buffy S5, Angel S5, ATF and Buffy S8!

Here is my thinking.
I've been watching Buffy S5 and listening carefully to the general thinking of what the key does, with all the tearing down the fabric that separates and all them falling together and creating this "mega hell"

Then, the other day I watced, "Your Welcome" and how the Failsafe in WR&H is big and what you can kind of see the shadow of flapping around in that box could at least be the dragon....and I'm assuming others of those fun beastie guys from Not Fade Away.

Then, I thought that this "outcome" of the key sounds oddly like what is going on in ATF. (Although, apparently not hurting Scotland.) But, maybe since the KEY is still living, they can't really make it effect everyone.

At the very least, I think we can probably assume that the "failsafe" was opened at the end of NFA. If only because it was there for if they couldn't "control" Angel and he obviously was no longer under their control.

But, does anyone else think that this whole "ATF Hell" sounds an awful lot like what the key was supposed to do? Especially if we consider that perhaps Buffy can't "see" all this going on because it's kind on some other plane of existence. Which would mean that maybe in Angel's world, even Scotland is in hell too!

Pardon me if I make no sense, I'm on Benedryl!

The ATF hell is probably similar to what the Key would have done for Glory, but on a much smaller scale. Glory's actions would have resulted in a global if not universal hell, whereas the mess that Angel initiated, or caused W&H to initiate, take your pick, seems to be just confined to the Los Angeles area.

So if it's true then in Angel's world I'm in hell? Yay! I always knew I would end up in hell.

Okay, I'm not getting out my comics but wasn't Connor in San Diego or San Franscisco or one of those San's when he was "hiding everyone out"? I could be wrong, but I thought it was at least a couple of cities.

ATF hell is nowhere near as bad as Glory hell would be.
Atf hell aint even that bad, Spikes in a mansion, Lornes a lord, Groos flying around on Magic horsey worseys. Looks like great fun.

I don't think the failsafe is loose, i think it's probably still trapt in the basement

I see no reason why the failsafe wouldn't be what was confronting them in that alley. From what Eve said it was down there just in case of the exact thing Angel did. Then all these weirdos show up with a dragon. I doubt that's a coincidence.

Well, personally, I think the failsafe was making Angel human. I do not think Lindsay would have wanted to unleash all of those monsters to deal with Angel, he was a hands on kinda guy. When he was trying to unleash the failsafe I think it was to make Angel human again.

Oh my no. The Key was obviously meant to have a control mechanism, or be used by an unimaginably powerful user that could manipulate just exactly what the Key opened, where, when, how much etc

If the doorway had continued to grow at that rate it would have made every reality bleed into itself. It would only have been a matter of time before that doorway opened a hole to a reality where it occupied the same space as the heart of a star, or an ocean, or a black hole.

Imagine the surface of a star from another reality pouring across California, until the doorway became large enough to pull entire planets through colliding with each other.

Billions, trillions, infinite numbers of universes all trying to exist in the same place at the same time colliding and merging. Absolute entropy. All that would have been left is one universe so full of superheated matter, everything would have been destroyed.

Now, that little Pandora wannabe in After the Fall isn't quite doing that, so I'm thinking its either a microscopic version that can only grow to the size of a city (LA) or its a more refined version of the Key the Senior Partners created and can control.
