What if we like, take a generic mob movie but this time we like, have it starring women, because like equality and all, and then we can have them make like, a lot of gender related jokes and all.

What if we like, stop criticising every movie with a female cast just based on the fact it has a female cast.

I criticized it because it appears unoriginal and the only semblance that made it original is the female cast. Even at that it could be viewed as original if it were not for the guys vs girls tone the movie seems to have and didn't feature sexist jokes in the trailer.

What if we like, NOT automatically praise films with a female cast? Just because they're all women doesn't mean the film will be great.

Oh I'm not praising the movie. It's probably going to be crap. But it's not gonna suck cause it has women in it.

Well at least we can agree it's unoriginal. But your post was primarily about the women cast so it's hard not to associate the critique with the cast.

Is there a specific film yous is on about, or just films in general?

That's because it's what they were selling. The women cast. Doing everything that men do. That was the problem with the comic book. Rather than it being a character study and seeing how female mob bosses operate differently than men, they just took men roles and made them female. That's how the trailer looks as well. Just take a generic mob movie and make it about females. Then make jokes about their sex. It will fail because it's unoriginal, not because it's a female cast. Simply checking boxes doesn't make it good.

Diversity, inclusivity and multiculturalism bah humbug. Hollywood is running scared after the double whammy of #oscarssowhite and Harvey Weinstein. Studios are falling all over themselves to try and convince us the casting couch days are over and that women can actually get good parts, even after they are older than the sex kittens they always used to hire. They always use the best scenes for the trailer and if that is the case, if the sound cuts out, we can cue the actresses ourselves because nothing looks original except the idea of a female mob. I would not pay to watch it in a theatre but it will come to DVD/cable (probably right after it tanks in the marketplace a few months after release), so I am in no rush. Compare the ideals of this movie with "If nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do." This movie fails on both counts.

All this 'anything you can do I can do better' along gender roles is getting very tired. Come up with a fresh idea that garners new stories and fresh insights rather than gendering everything for equality points.

It's a shame they couldn't pun off of she/her like they can with 'hero' because that's a great marketing strategy.
Also, its not even like there's any evidence it works; did the female Ghostbuster's movie reboot work? Did the all-female Ocean's movie? Nope, and that wasn't anything to do with them being all-female led, its because there was nothing new there.
