The Large Hadron Collider -- Your Opinions?

Oh for goodness sake how gullable are you people?

The LHC would never have ended the world principally since the collisions it creates are still not as high powered as the ones caused by cosmic rays striking the atmosphere every day.

Since thats been happening for oh, say 3-4 billion years, every second, I doubt lower powered collisions in a secure containment vessel pose a threat to the flies in the same room.

The Singularities it creates are so small as to never be able to survive, they pop out of existence instantly. The gravitational field they exhibit wouldn't even reach much further than the containment walls of the chamber. FYI a real full sized Black Hole would take months to cross the Solar System to arrive at Earth by which time the tidal forces of its accretion disc would already have flayed the atmosphere away.

You're worrying for nothing.

Am I the only person that's now more afraid? I rather like the atmosphere!

OMFG did you just completely miss the point of my post?

The high energy collisions in the atmosphere pose 'no' threat to life on Earth or the planet itself since they happen all over the surface area of the atmosphere every single second of every day and have for billions of years.

News flash, you're being bombarded by the fine spray of tiny particles that occur from it right now and have been since you were born, and every ancestor you have right back to the Primordial ooze.

And more than several billion neutrinos every single second, these particles are harmless since no one ever incurs any ill effects from them and never have.

The Large Hadron Collider not only does not produce anywhere near as many particles, the collisions are still less powerful than the naturally occurring ones.

How can something so far underground in a massive containment vessel be more dangerous than a naturally occurring byproduct of the atmosphere thats even more powerful and diverse happening all the time?

I was talking about the chance of ANOTHER black hole, actually! THAT sounds a lot more scary!

but.. but... I am a hypochondriac.. I get ill effects from everything. I feel myself being bombarded by those little invisible buggers right now. ::cough cough:: i need a sick day. wait! I left me aluminum hat in the truck.. Mr. Wizard, would that help propel the invisible foes back into orbit?

The exotic particles from the cosmic ray collisions decay on the way down into more fundamental particles that are smaller than the nerve reception points in your body, you couldn't possibly feel them.

Neutrinos have no mass, they pass through solid matter therefore you can't feel what doesn't touch you, they simply pass through the space you occupy, to them you aren't "there".

I know you're kidding, but really, every Human is bombarded with many millions of times more energy and radiation from the Sun daily than they experience from the particle collisions, and as you know it takes direct sunlight exposure for some time to cause any damage.

You see, this is the most difficuld thread EVER! Try to be a non-English native spearker and read about physis! LOL

But I could do it, soooo

Nah, you guys see too much apocalyptic televison xD
I remember when they were building this thing, is amazing *_*
I wanna know what will happend with physis after that! I always said physis was mistical, now I know I´m right! Everything can change just because some weird scientist built a gigantic machine o/

I wanna make a black hole too! :cheering:
