The Library in "The Wish"

In the Alternate reality of The Wish, the Master opened the Hellmouth and rose. Wouldn't this involve the complete destruction of the library? I was just watching this and when they get to the scene where Cordy gets killed in the Library it hit me. The big tentacled monster with all the teeth should have destroyed the Library...
 
or, consider that is an alternate reality. Perhaps in that reality, the master used a different method to gain his freedom, one that didn't involve opening the Hellmouth. Or perhaps in that reality, the Hellmouth doesn't open right below the library.
 
The Harvest

Technically wouldn't the master have succeded in rising the the Harvest with Luke as his vessel or whatever? That would explain why there was no annointed one too.
 
In "The Harvest", which is supposed to have happened without a hitch in the alternate reality, the Master wasn't really trying to open the hellmouth. He was trying to escape from underground (I think he was held in there by some sort of spell). Since he wasn't in hell, he didn't need to open the hellmouth to escape. It was only after that failed miserably at that that he needed to open the Hellmouth in "Prophesy Girl".
 
Were there any other ways the Master tried to escape in season 1 that wouldn't have involved opening the hellmouth??

Because the Harvest theory was just proven wrong.
 
Cordy being chosen as Luke's first victem was pretty random, though--she was just someone in the Bronze. Buffy's not being there might have made her not show up that night, or come in late, or leave early. There's no garuntee that she was even in the Bronze during the Harvest in this reality.
 
I don't think Buffy had any influence over Cordy's attendance at the Bronze that night.

I think the Hellmouth cannot be moved. The only thing different in the reality is that Buffy didn't come to Sunnydale and Chaos ensued. It didn't change the location of the hellmouth.

I agree with this, Luke was his vessel to free him and give him the strength to break the spell that held him in the church.

If you think about it, the reason Cordy was picked was because Jesse wanted her. Jesse was only turned into a vampire to use as bait for Buffy. Buffy wasn't there, so Jesse most probably never got turned into a vampire. So it is possible that another person, other than Cordy was picked for the Vessel to drink from 🙂

I agree that Buffy's lack of showing up entirely affected everything. If Buffy hadn't shown up, Willow would not have "seized the day" although Jesse probably still would have made off with Darla. I agree with Jules on the fact that Jesse most probably wasn't vamped, because as Luke said (paraphrasing here 🙂), "You've been upgraded from a meal to bait." There would be no reason to use Jesse to lure since theres no Slayer there.

On the issue of Cordelia not being eaten by Luke. Now thats a tricky one! Maybe she never showed up because the previous night had been lackluster, I mean the whole Buffy-attacking-her thing was apparently the highlight of her night. I doubt though that Giles alone (because he never would have been formally introduced to Willow and Xander as companions without Buffy) would have faced Luke or any of the vampires. Angel is a feasable opponent, but at that time he was more afraid than willing to fight. Buffy was the one who brought out the fight in him.

Or maybe Anyanka had to change a few things, because Cordelia came to the Wishverse on exactly the same as it was in the real Buffyverse, so possibly Anyanka changed it so that Cordelia would have survived 'til that point so she could see what her wish granted her. Without Cordelia being able to see what Sunnyd would be like without Buffy, then Anya's wish would have been wasted, since it was catered to Cordelia.
 
Remember guys, Cordelia was given to Luke by Jesse-if, as original slayer said in her above post, Jesse wasn't a vamp, then Luke could have ended up choosing someone else, and Cordy would still be alive 😀
 
Everyone has good points, which is the great thing about Buffy/Angel. It creates these mysteries and gets our imaginations going. Anybody can really be correct, but unless Joss comes and posts on the boards we'll never know, but we can have fun wondering. 🙂
 
If anyone stood up to Luke, it was likely Angel. Vamp Willow, while torturing him, said words to the effect of "All those people you tried to save, they're all gonna die". It's possible the alternate reality's version of the events from "Welcome to the Hellmouth" are when he did this.

Good point. Angel was probably forced to join the fight sooner than he'd like due to the non-appearance of the Buffy he saw in Becoming. But after he saw her in Becoming and she didn't show in Sunnydale, don't you think he would have gone to look for her?
 
It's possible that he would've-if he hadn't been captured by Vamp Willow. It appears to have been a LONG time since he's been there when we see him in The Wish.
