Just had a thought....

Remember back in season 1 about the Master rising and killing the Slayer? Will that never did come to pass. He did kill Buffy but she was dead for like a minute or two. And the prophecy stated THE SLAYER it did not call the Slayer by name. So I'm thinking...now that the Master is back what if he kills Faith?

What I mean is what if the prophecy back in season 1 was actually for season 8?

And what if the Betrayer is actually the Anointed? It stated in the prophecy " The Slayer will not know him. And he will lead her into Hell." Thus the Betrayer being the Anointed one.

It's probably totally wrong but just a thought I had while rewatching season 1.
 
Yes, it's possible there could be more than one Anointed One... and that prophecy hasn't come true yet, since Buffy was never led into Hell by him.

"She will not know him" could refer to Twilight/Angel, since Buffy didn't know who she was. Or more likely, it could refer to one of her other allies or friends, with the meaning that she won't know him to be a betrayer. (This would also mean the betrayer has to be a male.)

From the scene in "Fray," it looks like Buffy will indeed be going into a Hell dimension after the final battle.

There is a flashback scene in Fray Fray (😉) where Urkonn tells Fray about the last Slayer and it shows a woman in a mini skirt (very probable it's Buffy) fighting a horde of demons, who then gets sealed away with these demon in what seems to be a hell dimension.
 
The Master also said prophecies were a tricky business and didn't tell you everything. He also said that " You're the one who sets me free" so maybe Buffy season 8 sets him free somehow?
 
Well, we've been told that Season 9 doesn't take place immediately after Season 8 ends, and that Season 8 actually ends with Issue #39, with #40 setting up the next season. Buffy and everyone else being sucked into another dimension, especially with what's going on at the moment with all of the dimensional tears that they have, would seem to fit in, especially if Willow for some reason had to remain on this side to seal the gate properly, possibly with Dawn's help, as the key, from the other side.

Then, Season 9 could begin sometime after Buffy's visit to Fray's time, since time doesn't pass the same way in hell dimensions as it does here. (We've seen 3 cases ofhells with faster time cycles than we have, it only makes sense that there most be some where the reverse is true. Maybe Season 8 Buffy returning to her proper time opens another dimensional portal, allowing Buffy and all of her friends, plus, of course, all of the trapped demons to escape.

Maybe that was the plot of either Urkonn and his fellow, or Fray's brother and all of the other "lurks" demons all along. In fact, having it be Fray's brother might make perfect sense, considering that he inherited the Slayer dreams, and he could have known about the whole thing in advance and been preparing for it.

That would explain why there is a Dark Willow in the future like we saw in the Buffy/Fray crossover.
 
It's all interesting, but do you really think we have the time in only 3 more issues to encompass that storyline?

All that would really have to be done is just have Buffy and the others sucked into hell and Willow stay behind to close the door. All of the details could be filled in in Season 9. In fact, solving that mystery and trying to straighten the mess out could be the major plot of the season, with Fray's brother as the Big Bad, and Buffy and her people trying to get back home and change what happened.
