We've had a few discussions recently that involved the characters strength and stuff, but do you think a vampires blood line plays any part in their strength.

Like since some of the strongest/most ruthless vampires we've seen are Angel, Spike, Darla, Drusilla and they all originate from the Masters bloodline.

And Buffy seems to have a harder time fighting them then just say a random vampire, that didn't randomly get one up or didn't attack her when she was emotionally vulnerable.

Even Connor is somewhat part of that bloodline and has super strength

Maybe not just strength but just it's a more distinguished bloodline, destined for greatness.

Do you think a bloodline from Kakistos or Dracula would be similar.

Lastly, bit random, but do you think Dracula and the Master have ever met, I imagine they HATED each other?

I think it's hard to say given we didn't really see many other vampires, that weren't either minion type or newly made.

The Masters bloodline do however seem good at killing Slayers! The Master, Spike and Drusilla having all been shown the kill one (or more!) it's implied that Luke had met and possible killed a Slayer too.

Although Penn didn't seem that strong

I've always thought that. The Master's bloodline seems to be one of the major common factors between some of the most powerful/skilled vampires we meet in the Buffyverse. I've always sort of assumed that Angel, Spike, Darla and Drusilla, and even some of the further offshoot vampires like Penn, are special in part because of their relationship to The Master.

I can't remember which scene it is with the Master, but I feel like it's implied that his blood makes stronger vamps than others'. I guess I hold true to the idea that older vamps make stronger children, but I might have just gotten that from other fandoms.

I too remember something of the sort. something he said to the Anointed maybe?

I think it explains why some vampires are stronger than others.

Kakistos was the one who wanted to kill Faith at the beginning? Yes, their bloodline should be similar. Pity we didn't get to see anyone sired by Dracula.

I have a hard time imagining those two meeting! they were both so weird in a different way 🙂
but I don't think they did. Spike would have mentioned it to Riley when he asked information. Also, the Master was isolated for a lot of time... maybe Dracula didn't exist yet at the time he was around?

Bahahaha at Dracula and The Master hating each other. On the Dracula note, I don't think he was necessarily a strong/accomplished fighter. He's more suave and sneaky.

I would imagine if you came from a powerful vampire's bloodline it would make you slightly more powerful. It's hard to say for sure, but it seems to be that way in Whedonverse.

I have to agree, the master/kakistos powers seemed to be derived from age, and therefore they were properly closer to the original vampire?

On the other hand, we have no idea how old Dracula is and he doesn't seem to be particuarly strong in the same way the latter two were.

Well we know he died as a human in 1476...

It seemed like they treated Dracula as a different type of vampire than the rest of them on the show, almost like he's a different breed lol

None of the other vampires had the ability to transmute into a bat or any other animal. Nor was there any ability to disappear as a mist and reappear elsewhere. Nor was there the power to hypnotize anyone (like Xander) into doing his bidding evident in any other vampire.

Both The Master and Drusilla had hypnotizing abilities

None of Draculas abilities were becasue of his vampirism, he learns those things from gypsies.

Did Dracula sire the 3 women who kept Giles busy?

He doesn't really seem like a siring kinda vampire.

I think the bloodlines do determine a vampires strength. The Master had been a vampire for a long enough time that his human characteristics started to fade and he began to appear more demonic. My theory is that Vamps like The Master and Kakistos are more demon than human so when they sire a new vampire, that vampire is a little bit more demon as well making them more ruthless and strong.

I also agree that The Master and Dracula would have hated each other Lol. The Master was all about world destruction and ritual and Dracula was more about seduction and the like. It didn't even seem like Dracula was really that Evil in my opinion, aside form his need to seduce girls and turn them into vampires, he seemed like a pretty mellow guy haha.

I don't know if the bloodline determines or not the strength of a vampire, and I don't remember specific references about this in the canon. I always thought that the strength and abilities of a vampire were the result of learning. The legendary wickedness of Angelus in part depended on what Darla taught him, and partly by what Liam had been in life. What I mean that maybe the "DNA" vampire isn't responsible for individual differences, I believe that all vampires have been infected by the same essence that created the first vampire. I believe that vampires are "born" all with the same characteristics and just learning and personality of what they were when they were still human, determine the differences between vampire and vampire.

What I always wondered is, they said in the show I believe that a demon possesses the corpse of the person sired who then becomes a vampire but is that demon created as a result of the Sire process or is there an actual demon in another dimension that travels into that corpse? That could be a real deciding factor as to whether the vampire bloodlines actually make a difference.
