Vicariously
living in a fantasy world
I know it is a parents job to "sensor" what their children see. But it seems now a days it is becoming harder and harder to do.
I got to thinking about this in the qoute thread. I quickly became addicted to finding some of my favorite movie qoutes and debated on what was "acceptable" to post.
I realized that there were probally some youngens on this board that will read it....and then another thought hit me...
while I sat there and thought of things that would not be acceptable, and decided not to post, most kids have already seen and are already qouting!
The realization that kids are growing up alot faster hit me as well.
I mean a prime example is I know school aged kids (9 year olds) who have cell phones! Cell phones! Once upon a time only "business folks" carried cell phones or had car phones or beepers (hahaha remember those?)
you never heard of an elementary school aged kid having a beeper. but now they have something that is ten steps above that even!
I know that they (cell phones) might be handy for parents to keep in contact with kids that have after school activities but still....
It got me thinking about so much more...The Bratz dolls and the message that they send? Was Barbie that ummm for a lack of a better term "skanky"?
Possibly but wow! These are what 5 year olds are playing with them and mimicking their style sense?!?!?!?!
Is it just me or is society aging our children before they should?
Aggg I sound like one of those FCC women!!!
but I thought it would prove to be an interesting discussion anyhow...In all reality I dont think I would deem Buffy even as appropiate for a 10 year old...maybe 12 or 13 but THATS pushing it...is my problem that I am a prude or am I in any way right to feel this way?
::hangs her head in shame:: I'm doing the "mommy" thing again arent I? LOL
