In my early twenties, I had the chance to chat quite a few times with a woman who spent a large chunk of her life struggling against apartheid. As so many other families, hers had to flee the country, as a consequence the children spent considerable time away from their parents. This had been tough on the children, who to some extent felt that they had been sacrificed for the mission.

It's not until lately I started to see how big a sacrifice this can be. Still, it's necessary. Someone has to fight, both in the Buffyverse and in the real world. My question today is: When can the mission be allowed to be what matters?
