Has anyone read them (City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass). I'd like to give my opinion but I won't bother if no one knows what I'm talking about...

Yes!!! I did read them and must admit I like the series a lot. It took me 4 days to read all the books. I just couldn't put them down, the bad part being that the suspense was too much for me to bear at times. :buble_eye

I've been been trying since then to find others who have read the series, but, no such luck. 🙁 It's really a shame. I find them to be well written and the plot was very interesting.

I'd love to write more about them, but, it's 4am where I am and so, my brain isn't exactly working properly.

P.S. One of my favourite characters is Magnus. He is quite the guy...well, warlock

My biggest problem with the book is actuallly a slight comparison to Twilight.

I want to say first that my intent is NOT to get into any kind of Twilight debate.

I do find it peculiar that people have gotten up in arms about the relationship portrayal of Edward and Bella and how it depicts Bella as unable to function without him, and so on. The Mortal Instruments series has hit the best sellers list, yet I've never heard anyone say anything about Jace and Clary, and their relationship, believing they are brother and sister.

I did, for the most part, like the series, although I did feel like the relationships were forced at times.

I'll say more later.

Just found out about these books and have just ordered the first book "City of Bones" from Amazon.
After I've read the book I will post my mini review here to show you what I think of it!

Oooh I've read them!

I had my doubts about Cassie Clare at first (the whole Draco trilogy plagarism scandal) but I do enjoy these books.

SPOILERS...

On the subject of Twilight, uhh no. I don't like Twilight and so the almost Buffy-esque series with a strong female protagonist was really a breath of fresh air. I'm happy with the series, and I was quite impressed with how the writing style progressed by City of Glass, though I do have to admit that it got pretty predictable at times. ("Sebastian," anyone?)
Speaking of ol' Sebastian, and your musing about the lack of backlash, I think mostly people were so accepting of the Jace/Clary relationship because there was so much forshadowing that they were not actually brother and sister. It was obvious from Luke's story in City of Bones, when he talked about Jonathan's white-blond hair (Jace's is described as golden), and from all of Clary's angsts about how little Jace looked like her family. When Valentine talked about making a monster, and when we learned the truth about the Inquisitor's son, there was just too much evidence for them to be siblings. By the time we got to the familiarity of Clary and Sebastian, most of us had already come up with theories about who Jace really was and why Sebastian was the real Jonathan. Similarly, despite their feelings for eachother, both Clary and Jace tried to stay away and make it work. When Edward and Bella did that, both of them went catatonic for six months and then tried to commit suicide. *Okay, no Twilight-bashing. Breathe.*
Back on topic, you might be a little suprised to know the huge critisism Cassie received from the Wayland Manor scene in City of Glass. A lot of fans were very disgusted by that scene, some even claiming to throw the book across the room or feel like throwing up. Personally, I didn't mind it because I actually kind of wanted them to be brother and sister, but it was a big turnoff for a lot of people because they couldn't see the characters making out like that while they still believed they were siblings.

A little off-topic... Are either of you going to the party in NYC this Saturday? I live only a few states away so I can probably make it. It sounds like fun...

The whole Jace/Clary relationship did receive negative comments. But, the series isn't that well known, yet. I heard they were some talks of a movie being made. When that happens, I'm sure that even more complaints are going to appear. I mean, the "Twilight" bashing reached its peak after the first movie came out. I still think people are being way too harsh, but, maybe, that's just me.

What I loved the most about "The Mortal Instruments" series was how the dynamics between the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders evolved throughout the series. I find it really interesting. 🙂

I wish I could, but, the distance doesn't allow me to. ::bsad:: If you attend it, let us know how it was, please?
