Season 1-
- Season one had the first season-itis. Not exactly sure where to go with all of their storylines. Which leads to several other problems.
- The show was trying to discover whether it wanted to be more dark and serious or more comical and light-hearted. (Fortunately, this became less of an issue as the series went ahead.)
- Too many characters. This was mainly due to the fact that it was the first season, but the show had to introduce Buffy, Xander, Giles, Willow, Jenny, Joyce, Angel, Darla, Cordelia, Snyder etc. And that often felt too laborious.
- Monster of the week episodes could feel a little dull. (for example, teachers pet, never kill a boy on the first date, i robot, you jane)
- The Anointed One. Need I say more?
- It seemed like the show was trying to focus on two major story-lines to have as the crux of the season. If the season was longer, this would've been fine but the season was far too short as it was. Angel seemed like a mid-season finale and while I love both it and Prophecy Girl, it felt like both didn't have any real lead-up.
Season 2-
- WAY too many episodes. I understand that Joss had to deal with the fact that he was working on Network television and a season is generally 22 episodes, this season was far too over-packed with filler episodes which was a problem only one future season seemed to have. (for example, when she was bad, some assembly required, inca mummy girl, reptile boy, halloween, lie to me, the dark age, ted, bad eggs, phases, killed by death, i only have eyes for you and go fish) and while I did love some of these episodes, they didn't add to the main arc of the season. FURTHERMORE, when the episodes this season sucked, they really, really sucked. I could actually make a comment on several of these episodes and how flawed they really were, but I can't be bothered.
- The Anointed One.
- Angelus. I loved the arc, but it really did ruin Angel's character in season three. I love Angel in Ats don't get me wrong, but he just didn't work in Season three.
- Kendra. I like her, but she kinda felt unnecessary and her death seemed like an attempt at an emotional reaction, which was kinda... not there? It was a good scene and it was executed well by Sarah, but it just felt kinda... pointless.
Season 3-
- flawless.
- Okay, no, that's not totally true. I'll start by saying like with every season, there were some episodes that weren't that great. (For example, beauty and the beasts and gingerbread)
- Lack of backstory for Faith. We had Kakistos and then we barely had anything else.
- Mr. Trick was under utilized majorly, he was a funny character and in "Faith, Hope and Trick" he was introduced as this really interesting vampire, and then he kind of fizzled.
- Not a flaw in relation to this season, because he was utilized so well in this season, but Jonathan kinda ruined certain parts of Season 4 and 6.
Season 4-
- In the first half of this season, there were like NO characters. It could've been refreshing if the characters already weren't drifting apart from each other. In the earlier episodes, there were five people in the main cast and one of them was more supporting than anything. (Oz)
- Riley. As much as I do LIKE Riley, he kind of kept this season from being really interesting. He took Buffy's focus apart from what really mattered.
- Beer Bad, Superstar, Where The Wild Things Are, Primeval, Living Conditions, The I In Team, Goodbye Iowa are all bad or average episodes among some really strong episodes.
- Oz leaving. As much as it brought in Tara whom I love, it caused us to lose a very good character.
- Spike in this season was completely unnecessary and boring.
- The main arc was terrible, Adam was a lackluster villain and Maggie Walsh (A HUMAN) was a better big bad than Adam was...
- The Initiative should've never happened. If done right, I might've changed my mind, but nope.
- Forrest is one of the worst supporting characters the show ever had. I can't stand him.
- This is the first season where Buffy begins to drift away from her friends and it's quite depressing.
Season 5-
- Dawn. I like Dawn, but she was just annoying in this season.
- Standard episode bash: Out Of My Mind, Listening To Fear (one of my least favourite episodes ever.) and Forever (weak episode in it's surroundings)
- Riley's storyline this season was terrible. Absolutely terrible. The idea of being bitten by a vampire being a turn-on is disgusting.
- Spike's storyline this season annoyed the hell out of me, but I'm a Bangel so I guess that's just my personal view. (That's pretty much it for me on this season, as it's my second favourite season.)
Season 6-
- The trio. I don't need to say anymore on this one.
- As You Were deserves your own section, because it was just completely unnecessary. Riley did not need to come back. Ever.
- Let's bash some episodes: Doublemeat Palace, Smashed and All The Way.
- I like season 6 a lot more than most people so I don't have all that much to comment on actually, I have one last comment. Amy. She was not needed to come back and I will never be over the fact that she returned not only in this season BUT AGAIN IN SEASON 7. GO AWAY.
Season 7-
- An overabundance of characters. There were AT LEAST ten characters who we didn't need without.
- Lack of Tara. Her cuteness really kinda dulled the season.
- Anya was made a recurring character in this season, as much as she was apparently in the main cast it certainly didn't seem like it. Kennedy seemed like more of a main cast member.
- Kennedy is annoying. Fact. Iyari Limon is absolutely beautiful but Kennedy is horrible.
- Overabundance of Spuffy, too much even for dedicated Spuffy fans.
- The First Evil was a terrible big bad, he couldn't even hit things.
- Episode bash time! Beneath You, Sleeper, Never Leave Me, Bring On The Night, The Killer In Me, First Date, Get It Done and Lies My Parents Told Me.
- Under-use of amazing guest stars. Faith, Caleb and Vi (best potential) could've been used much more.
- Robin Wood needed to leave as soon as he came out. Gave too much extra focus to Spike and he was just annoying.
I think I'm done. I think the most flawed seasons are probably 7, 4 and 2. Two however happens to be one of my favourite seasons, shows that the strength of SOME of the stand-alone episodes and the strength of the main arc were enough to outweigh the flaws.
I'm probably missing a hell of a lot of flaws but this is already really long so I'll leave this here.
