The most tragic love story in the Buffyverse

Following from the other thread "The Cutest Couple in the Buffyverse" as most relationships seemed doomed in Buffy & Angel I wondered who you think had the most tragic love.

For me I think it would be Fred and Wesley, he loved her so much and she rejected him for Gun and when he finally got her she died.

Fred and Wes are a far distant second for me. I know she died and came back as someone different, he had to deal with that.. yadda yadda.
At least when Fred died she didn't come back for 2 mins, after which Wesley is forced to kill her again! Plus Fred and Wesley were at least both human.
 
Buffy and Angel, of course. 🙁

Wes and Fred too, but, shouldn't we talk about BTVS? I mean, it's Buffy's anniversary's forum...
 
Yeah I would also have to go Buffy and Angel. The whole torture your friends and then force you to stick a sword in my gut right after I tell you I love you thing would do it...
 
It's a toss-up between Giles and Jenny and Willow and Tara. They both were awful (in the sense that they never really got to form life-long bonds that could've been there.)

at least those other couples got to be together at least a little. Cordy and Angel go to admit their feelings, and she's kidnapped and sent to another plane, and he's locked in a coffin by his psycho son (i love Connor!) and sent to the bottem of the ocean!!
THEN, Cordy's possessed by some crazy assed ex-PTB, who wants to create world peace, and Angel loses his soul and is locked in a cage.
and just when it looks like there might be a little hope for them...she goes and dies!!!
THAT'S tragic! in every sense of the word!
 
I think it's a toss up between Buffy/Angel and Willow/Tara. Both couples should have been together forever 🙁
 
Angel and Cordelia, for all of the reasons Lyri had said. Those two never had a fair chance.
 
I always like the classical romance of Buffy and Angel. The whole star crossed lovers gets me every time.
 
idk even before i got into buffy/spike i never like buffy and angel together. Angel always bugged the crap out of me. I like him once he left Buffy. I didn't find they're romance tragic so much as i did annoying.

anyway i think the most tragic one was Xander and Anya. They were ment to be together, but things kept getting in the way. At the end it seemed like they could finally be together again, but then Anya died.


Willow and tara was really sad too, i wasn't expecting Tara's death.

Fred and Wesley was probably the one that made me cry the most. I wanted them to get together so bad and then Fred died, but i don't think its the most tragic because i love illyria

i promised myself id rep anyone who mentioned anya and xander as tragic, since there's a lot of hatred about how their relationship ended, not pity for its tragedy. they were indeed a tragic couple. :(
Illyria was fantastic, but I still think it was the most Tragic - Especially seeing as the bond was there with Wesley after her death...made it even harder to watch
 
Is there any couple in the Buffyverse that's NOT tragic? Buffy and Angel, of course. Fred and Wesley just tore me up, as did Willow and Tara. Even Xander and Anya.....his leaving her at the altar still kills me.

Buffy and Spike were the most tragic not that the others were fluffy.
Look at Cordy/Angel
Wes/Fred
 
And the poor Riley who loved Buffy so much and Buffy still having feelings for Angel.
Did Buffy ever loved some one else beside Angel??
 
I have two that I felt were particularly tragic:

Jenny & Giles - This was heartbreaking, I hated to see Jenny go. I loved her.

Angel & Cordy - These two were meant for each other. *sigh*
 
Ihink both Angel and buffy and Willow and tara. Angel and buffy had to deal with loving each other, but then there was the fact that Angel wouldnt grow old with buffy and he could loose his soul no dalight and all that



Willow and tara, because the loved each other so much, it was obvious that the were soul mates and all, they break up but when they get back together and it seems that everything gonna work out and they are gonna live happily ever after with each other, tara gets shot and killed right infront of willow
 
Well, even if Cordy hadn't died it still couldn't have gone anywhere with Angel because of the curse... Besides, if he is destined to be with anyone then it must be Buffy.

Anyway, is there any couple in Buffyverse who stayed together?
