Right guys and girls this is a bit of an experiment so please bare with me and do your best to get involved and make it work.

The idea is based on the long running movie trial feature seen in Empire magazine and also extended to its forum. A movie is chosen and then people argue for or against it. Normally, the film chosen tends to be one which the person choosing loves, but which tends to get its fair share of stick, or maybe is just a film which naturally divides people. So then its about how many people like the film, how many dislike it, and how persuasive their arguments are in whether it is found guilty or not guilty.

I have a film in mind to get the ball rolling. But first, I would like to know who would be interested in doing this? If I can get some people signed up then I could draw up a list with a order of who picks the next film.

I would be.. generally speaking.

Good to hear. On a forum with as many members and as busy this I can see it working. Think I will look to get five or six officially signed up before starting. Will work out the finer details of the rules/structure later.

So the idea is that one member picks a movie, and the other members write their opinion and vote whether they consider it good or bad? I'd be interested.
But I have a question: Does every participant have to vote? What happens if I haven't seen the film?

I'm in! But I'm with JCoatsworth, what happens if we haven't seen the movie. I'm too busy to go and watch the movie everytime it's one that I haven't seen. But if I've already seen it I'd love to voice my opinion.

This can be worked out, but yeah I guess before we can put the film on trial we would have to make sure that everyone involved has seen it. In this case it maybe best for each member to come up with a list of at least five films so that there are other options if people have not seen their first choice. Also, to try and avoid this maybe try and stick to reasonable well known films, or at least widely seen cult gems etc..

Again I will work out the system, but I guess I can be flexible here. As long as everyone involved has seen the film then it shouldn't be a problem anyway. At this point I am thinking that I will open the vote to anyone on the forum, but that there will be a special core group of members who will pick the films themselves.

Sounds good to me. I'm in!

Cool, thanks for the responses guys. To be honest given the terrible state my football club is in right now I could do with something fun like this to cheer me up🙄

It sounds like fun. Think I'll throw my two cents in from the outside rather than being part of the core as I'm not overly rereliable.

Okay including myself I think we have five members so far, Fuffy Baith, WA, Blaze and JCCoatsworth being the others.

@Mr Pole are you in as a member or do you just want to vote separatly? And anyone who wants to be core members please let me know soon.

Will have a think about the rules over the next week and then try and get it started.

How about we do one movie a week? That way if people really want they could watch it and come and discuss. We could post a new thread on Sunday or something, like we use to do with our Dollhouse rewatch. And then people discuss and critique the movie until the next Sunday, when a new movie is posted.

It sounds like fun but sadly I can't promise to have the time to watch a movie every week. I do love talking about movies though so if one could chime in every now and then I'd be game. 🙂

Its a good idea, but like Taake pointed out it might be a bit of an ask for some people. Myself included as I am entering a cruical stage at Uni. For now will stick with the suggested format, but can always think about going this direction at a later date.

Also I should point that you don't have to watch the film we are discussing as long as you have seen it before and have some kind of fresh memory of it.

So that is now six members with RS joining.
