The name "Buffy"

I agree that the name "Buffy" sprang from the early 90's valley girl... I mean, Buffy? It's almost like Cookie or Muffin. It's the typical meek blond girly-girl.

Yet, we happen to have a Buffy that can kick major butt. So, it's very ironic to have a superhero named Buffy.

And if that doesn't sum it up, just think about the weird names that people name their children. Buffy is pretty normal to some of the more outrageous ones (Apple, Phinnaeus, etc.) Give me abreak! Name them normal!

So, I feel that Buffy is her real name, and Joyce must have been doing drugs when she named her 🙂

No her name was Buffy Anne Summers... End of Season 5 on the TombStone it said Buffy Anne Summers... If here real name was Elizabeth, you would think Elizabeth would of been on the Tombstone and not Buffy

Buffy is a hebrew name, it means Saviour...which fits perfectly for what our Buffy is. Hmm I wonder if Jesus had been a girl, if they would have called him that...

My parents know somebody who has a Yorkshire Terrier named Buffy.


and RE the Buffy I went to school with, I didn't know her too well, they moved when we were in like 4th grade. I remember she had red hair and glasses, and I always thought that was the strangest name. (of course this was in the 1980s) But now It is an extremely cool name.

She would probably have Buffy on her tombstone even if her name was Elizabeth, because everyone called her Buffy. But her name isn't Elizabeth. Buffy was on her permenant record, and you'd think that they'd have her real name on there.

I've been curious if Buffy was a real name lately. Guess it is. 😀

Noticed that "Buffy" peaked in popularity between '70-'79. So, it's most associated with Gen Xers, not that it's at all common. Ranked [HASHTAG]#678[/HASHTAG]. Buffy and gang were among the very last of the Xers, I'd argue.

Also noticed on that same site that "Willow" and "Xander" started to become much more popular in the late 90's, early 2000's. "Faith" peaked at #48 in 2002.
