The name Xander

I have never come across the name Xander before, until today. I received an e-mail from the Sydney Opera House. There, listed as the host is Xander KI.
 
Well I never heard anyone called Xander til Buffy came around... I thought it was awesome, since most people with the name Alexander shorten it to Alex. 🙂 When I was pregnant with my first child, we were gonna name it Alexander Riley if it was a boy, and call him Xander... But we had a girl so... Emily Claire won. LOL

I've always loved the name Alexander! I've never heard of Xander before either. When I first started watching Buffy way back I thought Xander sounded really weird along with the other weird names Buffy and Willow. Then I later learn its short for Alexander so it made sense.
 
I hadn't heard of it before the show but loved it. It was such a cool way to shorten Alexander and I've always thought that if I ever have a son, it would definitely be on the potential names list. I think Whedon likes shortening names in a new way though...I mean there's Topher on Dollhouse. Most people shorten Christopher to Chris...but Topher is so much better. And sounds more sci-fi genius-y, ha.

I went to high school with a guy who went by Topher.
I've never heard Xander until I watched Buffy, but some people I know named their sons Alexander and they call them Xander. 🙂 Most find Xander original and cool.
 
Xander sounds much better than Alex(no offends to any Alex 😛). I found it's funny when Dawn calls Xander "Alex" in Tabula Rasa. Oh, and in Russia, Alexander's nickname is Sasha.
 
Went to school with a dude called Alexander who got called 'Xander. I've heard it in reference to other people too. I think it's quite common in Scotland. Another acceptable nickname for an Alexander is "Eck". There was a dude in my town who was called Alexander Alexander, he lived on Alexander Steet, so was nicknamed "Triple Eck".

I wonder how much his parents must have hated him to call him Alexander Alexander. That's just so wrong. :/

"Sander" isn't completely unheard of here, either, but still very unusual. "Xander" in contrast is totally unknown (except among Buffy lovers, of course 🙂 ).
