Glorious Purpose
I was bored this afternoon and saw @ILLYRIAN and her Sunnydale tea party story and decided I wanted to make one too! So, here I go...
“Oh my word!” It was Giles, he sat head of the table along with Buffy willow and Xander, Spike was in the kitchen pouring a fresh glass of blood while glancing up to look at the telly every now and then. Buffy looked up from the stake she had been sharpening,
“What’s up?” She asked. Willow looked up inquisitively as well but didn’t say anything. Giles brought the newspaper he had been reading towards him and adjusted his glasses, as if to make sure he hadn’t read it wrong, he finally said,
“They have rebuilt Sunnydale High!” The group exchanged puzzled looks over the table, not sure wether to be excited or not. After the long silence Buffy finally spoke,
“I wanna go,” she demanded. She said it in a jolly voice, but her face, however, screamed nervousness.
“Yeah! It will be fun!” Replied Willow with a smile, backing Buffy up. Buffy took the paper from Giles as he began to butter his toast and examined the page titled ‘Sunnydale High Grand Reopening’. Spike jumped over the kitchen counter,
“Whats all the commotion about?” He quizzed leaning over Buffy’s shoulder to look at the paper.
“Sunnydale High has been rebuilt,” answered Giles. Buffy ducked a little under Spikes chin, she didn’t want the others thinking there was still something between them. Spike glanced over at her then moved his hand away so he wasn’t towering over her. He didn’t want to poke at her any more and certainly didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable. It did cross his mind to put his hand on her shoulder, or rest it on the back of her chair but decided not to, so he just shook his head and rolled his eyes but with a smile... he didn’t really mind, but didn’t want to seem too nice. Although he didn’t want to admit it, he was part of the Scooby gang now... and proud.
“We are going tonight, see what the place is like... I can’t wait to see the new library!” Exclaimed Giles, the others looked up and sighed, followed by a giggle from the girls. Xander looked up from his food,
“When you say we,” he said, “you mean YOU guys and not me, I swore I’d never go back to that place.” Buffy and willow made a pouty face.
“It will be fun! Come on,” laughed Buffy
“Yeah, come on Xander!” Smiled Willow
“Yeaaah, come on Xander!” Teased Spike, putting on a high pitched girly voice, he wouldn’t poke fun at Buffy but Xander was another story. Spike grinned at Xander then came an, “OUCH, bloody hell woman!” as Buffy had slid her chair back on to his foot, Spike seemed to forget he was still standing close behind her. Buffy grinned, pleased with herself, she looked down at his foot and then looked back up at him. Spike rolled his eyes and she looked back to the paper as he was alright.
“Alright,” it was Xander, he looked up and continued, “I’ll go!” Buffy and Willow smiled eagerly. Spike mumbled something under his breath. Xander opened his mouth again, looked at Spike and then said, “as long as he comes too.”Buffy sniggered and Willow sighed,
“Boys, so immature!” She mumbled and started on her cereal again.
“Jeez, can’t a man have plans outside of your little Scooby gang?!” Spike questioned. Buffy tossed her newly sharpened stake into her weapons bag,
“You have plans?” She replied.
“Well yeah,” began Spike, pausing to think “I have...plans... alright, I have nothing... I’ll tag along if it makes you happy! Why do you torture me so much...” and he slid behind the kitchen counter to put the blood he took out back in the fridge.
It was late, and pretty dark. Giles stood outside the newly polished school, one by one the others came out to join him.
“What did you think?” Asked Buffy. Giles paused, looked at her and then said,
“There were NO books in the library! JUST computers! Can you believe it!” Giles ranted, “what about you?” He asked Buffy glumly.
“Ghosts in the loo,” Buffy replied disgusted, “you’d think with all the student that died they would check first! What did you think Will?”
“Their new curriculum wasn’t great... alright, rubbish! Nothing like what we learnt... actually, what did we learn?” Willow shrugged, “Xander?”
Xander paused, he rather quite liked it but didn’t want to say, so instead he came out with, “the windows weren’t that straight.” They others looked at him and then looked back at the building, there was silence then Spike came out.
“What a nice place! They really did it up! Spoke to the caretaker, he was nice... would’ve gone lovely on toast,” he paused, saw their faces and carried on, “I’m joking!” he exclaimed! “Well I mean the nice on toast bit, it did look nice...no?” He looked at their faces, they were all very disappointed in their own little way, they turned to walk away, but before they did, they all chorused a glum “shut up Spike,” and were on their way.
“Hey Xander,” said Buffy, “I like your plan of never coming back here again.”
