Who is in charge of the new Watchers Council?

According to Wikipedia, Giles has become the new head of the Watchers' Council? If this is true, WHY?

After all that has happened in Sunnydale, Buffy has allowed a new Watchers Council under Rupert Giles to develop and take control of the Slayers during the post-"Chosen" era? Are there any female Watchers? Or has Giles only hired men?

Maybe Wikipedia read my fan-fic The New Angel Investigations. As I wrote that Giles did become the head of The New Watchers Council.
At the beginning of the "No Future For You" arc, Giles told Faith that he was, in effect, the (entire) Watchers' Council, even though Andrew claimed to be working on the Council in Angel Season 5 "Damages." Most likely, he was just a short term employee or messenger boy, since he hasn't made any reference to being a Watcher in Season 8.

As for who commands the Slayer army and all of its support personnel, that's General Buffy. The Slayers no longer work for the Council.
 
Has anyone mentioned anyone working for the Council in the comics? As far as I can remember, Xander tells Buffy that he's not a Watcher, and something about him being 'like a Watcher, but he doesn't get paid as much' but I maybe mixing that up with a fanfic, no idea, lol.

As far as I'm aware, there is no Council, and everyone, including Giles and Andrew, take their orders from Buffy. I really doubt that Buffy would have given all of these girls all this power, and then handed them back over to the Council to have them farmed out and used as nothing more than weapons. She wouldn't reliquish that hold, not even to Giles.
 
The Chain-of-Command is pretty loose, like it's always been with the Scoobies, but the best analogy would be:

Buffy - Queen
Giles - Senior Advisor
Xander - Chief of Staff
Willow - Secretary of Magic

Then various Field Commanders under those four (Robin, Satsu, Andrew, etc.)

Well, one of the was Rona, right? So, I expect they're all working for Buffy. I honestly do not believe that Buffy would hand over the power of training and looking after these girls to the Council. Granted, there maybe be a few ex-Council people who work FOR Buffy, but Buffy is the Chick in Charge.

Wasn't the Council destroyed in S7 by The Firsts' Bringers?

The councils HQ was blown up by the bringers. Giles was a watcher at that point, so the council continued.

Yeah, but there must have been others like Giles and Wesley who were working on there own, in other parts of the world. The majority of the Council and their operatives and Watchers were destroyed and killed, but I imagine there were a few who were left behind, that could have been recruited by Buffy and Giles to their cause, if they felt the need.
 
While I can see some watchers working for Buffy and Giles, I doubt that they're all happy about it. They used to be in power, have a mission, then they lost it. Some may carry a grudge and be planning to take over the slayer army, or take away the girls power, and maybe just keep one girl they could control.

I think that would be interesting to read. Maybe a slayer would work with them, so she could be THE slayer one day. Maybe a potential plot for a mini series, or season 9?

Yeah, I agree, it might make a good plot for an arc, but as we've been saying since the end of S7, we have no guarantee that ONE girl can pass on the power of the Slayer, or who that girl might actually be if she does exist.

A possible fanwank theory is that, had the line run the way it was supposed to, the next Slayer in line after Faith would have been Rona, because of the Hellmouth thing with the Sycthe. (Buffy passed the Scythe to Faith, Faith passed it to Rona, thus completing the line) So maybe SHE is THE Slayer who'll be able to pass on the power. But we'll never know for sure.

If there are Watchers out there who are planning this, then they are going to get rid of Buffy and Faith first, so that they don't have to deal with them. Possibly, Kennedy, Satsu, Rowena and Leah would be next, maybe even Vi and Rona. They're gonna need a girl they can control, and anyone of Buffy's girls is not going to be someone who can easily be manipulated.
 
The Watcher mention in Fray: the series is interesting. According to that, watchers still exist, but they don't train girls, and they've gone insane. One of them burns himself alive in front of Fray.
 
From what I remember about the watchers council was that unlike slayers, watchers ran through family lines. Giles' father was a watcher and his grandmother was the head of the watchers council at one point. After the council was destroyed there were some rouge or fired members left like Wesley and that guy who stole the codex on Angel who ended up betraying Angel. I'm sure there are probably council family left that could be trained if Buffy wanted and only time will tell if they reform.

I beleive the last episode of season four is his first appearence and then he is in season five. He sent Angel and Spike on that bogus trip to the desert after the "cup of eternal torment" and then left Wolfram and hart before Angel and Spike could get back at him. I think they figured Wolfram and Hart got to him bc I don't recall him being seen again.

Before joining Wolfram & Hart, Rutherford Sirk was a member of the Watchers' Council. He lacked, however, the moral clarity of other Watchers of his generation, as well as the self-righteousness and traditionalism of Watchers like Quentin Travers or the younger Wesley Wyndam-Pryce. Sirk found himself doubting about the good fight and the Council's mission, though he was far from the only Watcher corrupted by the knowledge he obtained at the Council.

Tempted by power and ambition, Sirk joined Wolfram & Hart, taking numerous tomes and codices with him, such as the Devandiré Sibylline Codex. He became a member of W&H's Research and Intelligence Department, and personally oversaw the Ancient Prophecies Wing.

When Lilah Morgan offered the Angel Investigations staff the chance to take over the W&H Los Angeles Branch, Sirk was selected as Wesley's guide. The fact that the Sibylline Codex was in W&H's possession, as well as Wesley's past experience with another British librarian allowed him to intuit Sirk's past affiliation. Sirk was knocked by his fellow ex-Watcher, who then infiltrated to the firm's Files and Records Department.

Months later, Sirk was secretly recruited by Lindsey McDonald and Eve Levin as part of their plot to manipulate both Angel and Spike, making them believe the universe had been thrown into chaos by the existance of two vampires with a soul. Sirk pretended to have translated a portion of the Prophecies of Aberjian which stated that the true champion would be the one who drank from the Cup of Perpetual Torment. However, this was merely a wild goose chase, and after Sirk's betrayal was discovered, the former Watcher fled the firm.

Thanks for the find. But I just read the dialouge for Home and Destiny where he speaks(so if he's spoken of in other scenes, I don't know it), the two eps Buffy wiki says he's in, and I have to say that that entry assume a lot of things. Does Buffy wikiw have a source other than what's shown on screen?

Yeah it also gets info from the Buffy and Angel comics, interviews, and commentary on the dvds.
