Of alll the stuff coming out from people who have at one time or another been connected to the Whedonverse which one to you think is most likely to break out of the cult mode, and have the biggest impact on the general population?

The Inside: Minear, Gordon, Espenson and Fury join forces on a Silence of the Lambish TV series.

Southland Tales: Sarah Michelle Gellar coming off her success with The Grudge does a project for the director of Donnie Darko.

Serenity: Joss directs his first Movie. Based on his TV series Firefly.

Wonder Woman: Joss directs a movie based on the comic book icon.

Other: There must be something I forgot.
 
I hope all of them become the next big thing, but I have to say that for some reason Southland Tales makes me a whole lot more interested than any of the other projects. A musical/comedy/thriller? I just watched the teaser trailer and this could become something really interesting.

However if we are gonna go with the money it's probably Wonder Woman that'll get the biggest audience. Everyone likes Super Heros and Joss Whedon.
 
I'd have to say that Serenity has the best chance of major success out of the options there. It already has the success of Firefly to ride on so that gives it a massive head start.

Wonder Woman is probably next, however i've said many times before that i wish Joss had landed a more relevant superhero franchise (by which i mean Marvel! 😉), Wonder Woman may be a well recognisable name to the public but that doesn't neccessarily mean they want to see a movie about her.

Southland Tales will stand or fall purely on it's own merits rather than thanks to Sarah. She is obviously our main reason for wanting to see it but i tend to think she still has a way to go before she is a massive draw name for the general public. Give her time though, she's young! 😀

There are quite a few possible television series starting soon featuring Mutant Enemy cast or crew, David and Amy both have pilots i believe, but of all of them i would say that The Inside possibly has the least chance of success. Need i mention which network it's on?
 
I hope that Serenity does well and becomes a franchise (which has been suggested as a possibility if the film does well enough) and I'm also looking forward to Joss's take on Diana Prince (WW)
 
Not sure what's going to be the biggest. Even though I don't really care about the character Wonder Woman, that's the one I'm most curious about.

It's not his creation. His work on X-Men became wildly popular. It feels so "Joss" to me. Like, you could pick out each X-Man and match one up with their respective Scoobie...similar snarkiness, sarcasm to the characters.

Will WW be similarly irreverent? How is that possible? She seems so terribly straightforward, unironic. Can't wait to see.
 
I feel that Wonder Woman will have the most press coverage, its already had quite a bit. Just look at how much press all of the superhero movies have gotten, WW will be no different. Whether it'll be good press is another story.
 
Off the cuff, I'd say The Inside, simply because after Elektra and Catwoman, I'm not sure how optimistic people will be of female superhero films, and Southland Tales, though it sounds fascinating, could be a little strange for the mainstream. Firefly may do well, but not everyone is open to a sci-fi themed movie. BTw- does anyone know the official sote for Southland Tales or any other informative site?

I've gone with Serenity, simply because I'm an evil person and will watch it multiple times in order to thumb my nose at Fox.
 
Hopefully Serenity. It was a brilliant series, only Fox couldn'y see it. And to think they cancelled one of my all time faves Dark Angel for Firefly, only for them to cancel Firelfly! 🙁 Smelly fox.
 
There's some interesting stuff coming out about the Inside -

THE INSIDE, a new drama focusing on the FBI's Los Angeles-based Violent Crimes Unit (VCU), will premiere Wednesday, June 8 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. The series, created by Tim Minear and Howard Gordon ("24"), is executive-produced by Minear, Brian Grazer ("24") and David Nevins ("24").

In the series premiere, when one of the VCU's own profilers is brutally murdered by the serial killer they have been tracking, rookie FBI Agent REBECCA LOCKE (Rachel Nichols, "The Amityville Horror") is recruited to join the team, despite her lack of field experience.

Unbeknownst to Rebecca, famed Supervisory Special Agent VIRGIL "WEB" WEBSTER (Peter Coyote, "The 4400") has personally selected her to join his rogue division "“ not for her impressive profiling skills, but because of a secret she's keeping. Web knows that Rebecca was abducted and held captive as a child, and the traumatic experience has afforded her unique insight into the mindset of both villain and victim.

Working with Rebecca is Special Agent PAUL RYAN (Jay Harrington, "Summerland"), the married conscience of the department. When he, too, learns of Rebecca's secret, he's determined to protect her from Web "“ a man Paul believes will go to any lengths to solve a crime, including putting his own agents at risk.

Rounding out the team are Special Agent DANNY LOVE (Adam Baldwin, "Firefly"), an imposing ex-Marine, tactical team leader and a bit of a hothead; Special Agent MELODY SIM (Katie Finneran, "Wonderfalls"), a gifted and detail-oriented psychologist whose work environment has made her tense and anxious; and CARTER HOWARD (Nelsan Ellis), the department's savvy computer technician.

The series follows Rebecca and her fellow agents as they move from one challenging, complex case to the next, making personal sacrifices along the way. Who these agents really are, why Web has hired each of them, and the true story of Rebecca's abduction are mysteries that can only be solved on THE INSIDE.

I'm liking the tv promos for The Inside. Seems very Silence of the Lambs/X-Files. It's weird to have it showing in the summer. Maybe this will work for Fox. Try out the "genre" shows during the summer, see if they work. It's not really supposed to be sci-fi (is it?), but anyways..

Fox is always so maddening in the way they tinker with and screw over shows that aren't immediate massive hits.
 
Yeah, if you click on the link above they also mention Silence of the Lambs. I've heard it mentioned quite a lot with connection to The Inside.

Didn't Tim Minear begin his TV career on the X Files?

Wasn't American Idol first offered as a summer replacement? If not, are there other examples of successes?
 
Didn't know that about Minear, cool. Did Survivor start in the summer? Idol did. That seems like a common reality tv strategy...

Nerd4hire, you'd said that the restriction on networks showing their own studio-produced product is gone now, right? The Inside is another example of that. Seems like in theory, this could be good for tv drama"”more of a direct financial, creative investment in the product, more sense of ownership. Hope that's the result anyway...
 
Yeah, I did say that, but with a qualification. It's just something I think I read somewhere, like the Tim Minear getting his start on X files thing.

The way I remember it, it concerned something like a law that enforced the production of a series would be created independently from the network. Fox network could still show a series produced by Fox production, but they were 2 separate entities.

Going by my less than exact memory, that law was changed a year ago or so. As I remember it was about the time the WB cancelled Angel.

If I'm wrong about that though, I wish someone would correct me.
 
Sci-fi pics: Is future past?

"”Just got "Firefly" delivered from Amazon. Only saw two eps, so this is new to me. My prep for Serenity. It seems something like the adventures a rogue like Han Solo might have had. Complexity, ambiguity, like DS9. Wonder if this kinda thing will still resonate 3-5 years from now. Will it tank 'cause it's swimming against the cultural tide? We'll see I guess.
