Some of you already know my poor opinion of Daniel Craig as James Bond, so it should be no surprise that I'm in no way heartbroken to see him limping away on his bad knee, but, guess who's being talked about for his replacement. A hint: He's a famous Asgardian. No, not Thor.

Tom Hiddleston, who we all know and hate as Loki, might be the next 007.

I liked Craig's Bond. But I never read the books. I like the idea of Huddleston as James Bond. Maybe that's just me.
 
Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond. I'm sad to see him go. Tom Hiddleston does nothing for me, and is more of a Roger Moore than a Sean Connery. I'd love to see Idris Elba in the role 🙂

That's a bit of a sweeping generalisation. I absolutely bloody love the guy, just ask @GwenRaiden !

Whilst I think he will make a good Bond, I do worry he'll be typecast. It's something he's managed to avoid up til now. I think once you're Bond, you're pretty much always Bond.

The Night Manager proves he has what it takes, I think.

Plus, he's damn hot!
 
I'm torn over this. Hiddleston's a fine actor, and young enough to play Bond for several more years to come, but IDK... I feel like they could find someone better.
 
I love Tom but I'm not convinced that he would make a good James Bond. He did impress in 'The Night Manager' though.

I liked Daniel Craig's turn to begin with, but I did get fed up towards the end of all his behind-the-scenes whining, plus I'm not a huge fan of Skyfall/Spectre.
 
I mean, don't get me wrong, Idris Elba would be awesome.... he has that suave charm down to a tee. I'd love to see Idris as Bond, but I think I'd like to see Tom more, despite my reservations as what it would do for his career going forward.

I mean, Sean Connery had an ok career post-Bond, but he just played the same Scot over and over again. Timothy Dalton is brilliant in Penny Dreadful, but before that I didn't see him in anything else. Pierce Brosnan, where is he nowadays? Roger Moore's retired now I think. Be interesting to see what Daniel Craig chooses next.

Is playing James Bond a career death sentence? If so, I'd rather Idris and Tom both not go there....
 
How would the new James Bond fight any evil at all without being accused of sexism, women objectifying, islamophobia, or western centralism these days? Color me intrigued.

Maybe he could slaughter his own family, friends and people, like that stupid CGI hysteriaAvatar?
 
I don't think anyone should be playing Bond. It's time to retire the character, it's been done better since. The movies are so incredibly dull.

I agree, the franchise has been just about beaten to death. It should have ended three or four movies into the series. Connery WAS James Bond, or at least what movie goers imagined him to be. Fleming and Fleming purists weren't all that pleased. Ironically, the actor who portrayed Bond closest to Fleming's version, at least in my opinion, was George Lazenby, and he was dropped after a single movie.
 
I found James Bond very dull, until Daniel Craig, who re-invented the character and the franchise. (Special mention to Judi Dench who also added a layer of modernism) Each new Bond has to bring something new and I don't think Hiddleston does, whereas Elba would be just different enough to make it work.

I would add that I am not talking about his colour here, I am talking about his class. I am bored with Eton/Harrow Oxbridge educated actors getting all the plum roles, they don't reflect the real world for the majority of people. I know James Bond isn't reality, but it speaks to the problems that are apparant in the British film/television/theatre industries currently.

That's because he was terribly wooden and lacked that sense of danger which Connery brought to the role. In fact pretty sure that Fleming approved of Connery. Think the one they missed the boat with was Dalton. He had the machine like coldness and was convincing in the stunt work, yet also had that humanity and charm which took the character in a different direction. The Living Daylights is in my top three Bond films and Licence to Kill was pretty impressive also.

Anyway they had to move on from the Fleming mode of Bond. I am in full approval of how they have modernism the films and again Craig has that gritty edge that Connery and Dalton had. Why would they stop it now having reinvented it and set up all these fresh possibilities?

Hiddleston is a good actor, but I'm not sold on him as Bond. Elba maybe.

OMG I want to write the screenplay for the working-class James Bond. One of the attributes of James Bond is that he is a connoisseur. He is well-travelled and educated enough to know the right temperature to serve various wines etc. Here is a sample piece of script:

Ext. Night. James drives his decrepit Vauxhall Cresta into the parking lot of the Casa del Europa Hotel.

Int. Night. The bar at the Casa del Europa Hotel.

James Bond: Bartender, could I have a Strongbow cider, shaken, not stirred?

The bartender takes a can of Strongbow, shakes it in front of him then above his head, then beside him on his left side then beside him on his right side and hands it to James. James opens it and promptly drenches himself and sprays everyone within a five-foot radius. He then takes a sip and says:

James Bond: Excellent! Just the right temperature, too.

Yup, comedy gold. I liked Roger Moore best as James Bond - he could deliver the comic quips every bit as well as Buffy. I thought George Lazenby was the most true-to-life version of James Bond - he was actually strong enough to tear doors off hinges etc., just the kind of thing a field agent might need to do.
 
I haven't seen all of the Bond films, but have seen quite a few. I think that Brosnan sort of seemed like the best fitting of the classic Bond mold. From what my dad said he was sort of 'Bond before he was Bond'. I really liked the Craig movies more grittier (somewhat) realistic feel. In fact I was kind of hoping that they'd lose the tuxes, martinis & the more outrageous gimmicks along with the campiness. I did like how they did finally explain why there's different Bonds. Otherwise the character would be like 95 by now. 😉
 
What they really need to do to 'reinvent' the franchise is introduce James Bond's younger sister Jamie Bond... played by (who else?) Sarah Michelle Gellar. Buffy fans all over the world would launch into a collective squee while Ian Fleming would finally be at peace knowing his legacy lives on in a way that's unique to his novels. Everyone wins and Daniel Craig relaxes on a beach somewhere in Curacao.
 
To re-invent the character get a new actor and have the writer write with that actor in mind and Tom Hiddleston will do that admirably.
If SMG was to attempt a role as Jamie Bond, I doubt I'd ever stop laughing that role would be so wrong for her.

What if it was Eliza then? Lol. I think she'd make a good female Bond. I think she'd be more up for it than Sarah. I don't think SMG wants physical roles.
