The Next James Bond?

If he was a bit younger, Anthony Head would've made a brilliant Bond.
But realistically, I feel that David Tennant would be great. Or James McAvoy!! Yes. 😀

What if it was Eliza then? Lol. I think she'd make a good female Bond. I think she'd be more up for it than Sarah. I don't think SMG wants physical roles.

You know Fuffy that's why they have stunt actors for that sort of thing?😀 Besides Moore was knocking on 50 when he was first cast😉

I already think that the newer films have a strong female presence what with the influence that Dench as M had on Bond, plus the extra involvement of Moneypenny, and stronger Bond girls.

Like your thinking with ASH😛

I like Tennant but feel like he might take the character too close to the campness of the Moore era. McAvoy could work.

Well Dame Judi's M is dead, Moneypenny's been relegated to a desk job as a glorified receptionist and Bond girls don't do much other than look pretty and sleep with Bond. I would say positive female representation in the Bond verse is verging on terrible.

Wait, have you've been watching the older Bonds by mistake?😉 That's certainly not what I have seen in the recent films. Sure Dench's M was killed off but what an impact she left. Besides the M of the past would never have had the agency to be killed off or have such a personal relationship with Bond for that matter. Over the last couple of films the new Moneypenny has been actively helping Bond with the missions. And wouldn't you say that Vesper Lynd was a progressive Bond girl?

progressive Bond girl

Sounds like quite an oxymoron. 😛

Mr Trick: You may have a point but hey I didn't make the rules!

lol I ken it's not your words, I don't mean to pick on your post, though it is kinda funny how they're trying to write better characters for women yet when it comes to Bond films they're still referred to as his 'girls' *shudder*

Dench's M was brilliant. But it's Judi Dench, she's going to be great whatever she does.

Moneypenny was on active service at the start of Skyfall, but by the end she was given a desk. She does actively help him.... from her desk. I mean whoopdeedoo for the men on letting her leave her desk once in a while, but as a progressive female character, she's still primarily a secretary. That's not progression. She started as an agent!

As for the Bond girls, Vesper Lynd was probably the best progressive depiction so far, but they're still referred to as 'Bond girls' and their primary role is to sleep with Bond, which happens every movie by the way. There has to be at least one sexual conquest. 🙄

Agent to desk job, I know right how progressive!?

lol. Yes I know they have stunt doubles but there still a lot of physical stuff involved, especially if they don't want the audience to easily spot the double. And I wouldn't put Moore's age as a positive 😉. But yes, by his standards SMG still has time. Lol.

What do you suggest we call them? 😛

And I see nothing wrong with them banging Bond. It's a tradition. I like traditions. I'm guessing you'd champion a female Doctor as well. 😉

I'm not saying they shouldn't bang because they're not married or anything. What I'm saying is, a woman can be more than a mere sex object. Most of these women are just sex objects, or if they're a professional, like a scientist, doctor or spy, they turn out to be a sex object in the end. You call it tradition, I call it something else.

And I champion anything and everything. I don't see why a woman couldn't be the Doctor or Bond. Same as I don't see why a black man couldn't be the Doctor or Bond. What's the difference? 😉

When I was 16 my mum had my room re-decorated as a birthday surprise. She was appalled when I burst into tears. I don't like change. If it's familiar, it's comforting to me.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. 😉

Give me any actor other than a straight white male and I might actually watch the next Bond.

LOL my SMG comment turned this into a thread on gender equality in the Bond universe. Kind of shamed to say I was half-kidding, though I do think there needs to be some more positive female representation in the films.

Bond, Jane Bond

Alright, so a few of you want a girl to be J. Bond, what are you going to say when she starts sleeping (or not actually sleeping) with different blokes?

Na I want her to keep sleeping with the bond girls

James Bond: screws a woman in the start of the movie, screws a bunch of men in the middle, and screws another woman in the end.

Jenny Bond: screws a man in the start of the movie, screws a bunch of women in the middle, and screws another man in the end.

No, its not just because Dench is good in the role, yes she is excellent, but clearly her M was very progressive. I don't see how anyone who saw Skyfall could think any different. You can actually see the start of the growth in her first scenes in Goldeneye where she calls Bond out on his old fashioned masculinity. The old M was just seen at the start of the film giving Bond his mission. Dench's M not only did that but got her hands dirty and had a complex and personal relationship with Bond.

You may have a point on Moneypenny but still think you are nit picing. Fact is she was involved on a mission with Bond and still aids him with information through her computer (in the past that would have been a man doing that). Considering where the character came from that is pretty big growth. I liked the touch of her having a boyfriend too, showing her independence from Bond.

Besides QOS which was a misfire, I think all the Craig Bond Girls have been pretty strong characters. There has been slow progress in these characters since the 80s.

@Blaze the problem with making Bond a gay character is that it would be a ticking the box excerise. Besides are you saying that a straight male can't be sensitive? I'm a straight male and I'm sensitive😉 Bond was written as a white middle class character and you can't change that history. All they can do is twink the character and advance the world around him and that's what they've been doing.

Well I didn't say he had to be gay 😛 I said I would only watch if he was gay, or a POC (person of colour), or a girl. Bonus point if she's a POC lesbian 😛

But in all seriousness, would it really be ticking a box? How many action hero do you know that are gay (and that the movie does not focus on their sexuality only). Cause the only movie I can think of is Deadpool who is pan (which is not stated in the movie mind you). So is it really checking a box when there's literally no gay action hero right now?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on Bond being a white middle class womanizer (okay maybe a little bit), I just don't care for that so I couldn't care less with them casting another average white dude for the role. No matter who said average white dude is. Has nothing with the guy not being sensitive or anything. People just love screaming PC (politically correctness) as soon as I mention that I want Bond to be black, or a women, or gay, or all of the above, but have people ever realized it has nothing with me wanting to be PC. I'm just bored as hell with having white guys play all the action roles.
