If there had been another Buffyverse series (such as Spike or Faith) who would you like to see in that shows "watchers" role. A few potential names come to mind. Lydia and Rutherford Sirk would be at the top of my personal list. Who would your picks be? 🙂

It'd be cool if Anne became a watcher, firstly cuz it'd be cool to see a young female watcher, secondly cuz it'd be interesting to see how being American would be different and thirdly becasue she has a connection to vampires in her past.

Plus she obviously cares for and looks after people now.

I dont really think it would work, and would probably feel forced as a story, but if I had to pick someone I'd pick her.

Love Anne,i always wished she would become a main caster on Angel

Dawn would have been a good watcher, as I read this question, I realised that there could be potential for a Dawn spin off, with her training a new slayer. Dawn is not my favorite character by far, but she had potential that the show/comics have overlooked. The whole your not special, your extraordinary notion seems to have disappeared. I can't imagine a better qualified person than Dawn for the position of watcher.

That would have been a great character arc for her,i agree :)
Completely agree with Dawn, she would make a spectacular watcher as she grows older.

I'd also say Andrew, I could absolutely see him be a watcher, but more so in the line of s3 Wesley, he'd be a goofy watcher, the kind that no one listens too.

Lydia died when the Watchers' Council HQ was attacked. I didn't particularly like Rutherford. I agree maybe with Andrew. Maybe Xander. He was really good in that role in season 8 although it appears that it took a huge toll on him in season 9. So maybe he wasn't cut out for it. Robin Wood would also be a good choice.

I also like Alasdair Coames in Angel & Faith.

I think having a character like Dawn be a Watcher would be a departure from the overwhelmingly male Watcher's Council representatives we saw on the show- she's clever, and I think the role would suit her, but as someone who's got to be a very similar age to the new Slayers, I think the dynamic between her and "her Slayer" would be very different to, say, Buffy and Giles, where there was very much a parent/ child dynamic.

I also wonder whether Buffy and Faith themselves may slip into the role of Watchers as they grow older (assuming that they do indeed grow older, which is much more likely with a multitude of Slayers). From what I understand, they're still very much active "in the field" in the comic books, and as they are still quite young and likely in peak physical condition, this is understandable. However, whilst they will always be stronger than the average human being, assuming that age will take it's toll on their strength/ flexibility, etc. then they're not always going to be stronger/ as strong as the vampires and demons they face. Would either of them slip into a more "Watcher-y" role as they grew older? I didn't think Buffy made a great leader in S7, but would it be different being responsible for the training and development of one or two specific Slayers, if she had a chance to bond with them the way she never did with the Potentials?

Buffy and Faith may be able to assume the training aspect of "watchers" duty, but I can not see them at all assuming the other duties of a typical watcher. These duties being human and demon language acquisition and translation/interpretation, sorcery, and demonology reference and research studies. I just can't imagine they would have either the intellect or the personal inclination to engage in such academic pursuits. But i agree about Dawn, and I also think Willow would possess the intellectual qualities as well as the personal desire required to engage in the watcher studies. 🙂

I agree, I think down the road when Willow is like 50yo she would make a great watcher. At this point I think she's too powerful to be a watcher, it'd be like taking Superman and telling him he has to take the back-seat. Also she's still too green, too impulsive. Once Willow grow older and assuming that she can't do the bad ass stuff she's doing right now and that she really learns to control herself, I feel like she'd have a great deal of knowledge to give to slayers.
