The Once More With Feeling Fan Vocals Project

This is just an idea I've been thinking about. I'm pretty good with sound editing, and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in contributing vocals, music, instrumentals or otherwise to putting together a complete 'Once More With OMWF soundtrack'.

I'd need wav files with a simple recording of you singing one, two or all of the songs, (or compressed to MP3 would be all-right, although uncompressing it and recompressing it afterwards would cause some degredation), sheet music and/or actual instrumentals of the music, I would also need as many people as possible to contribute, to give the right diversity to the songs in terms of vocal style. If you know alot about mixing, you could feel free to process the vocals on your end, but if you don't, and you are uncertain about the quality of the vocals then recording it multiple times per song would do the same trick, I can patch the best of the best together fairly easily.

If pressed hard, and without sheet music (or an instrumental track) I could probably learn all the piano parts in the show fairly quickly, but I would probably need someone to do the same with the guitar parts - I have rudimentary guitar skills at best.

Does anyone think this is a good idea? Would you be interested in contributing?

I'm interested, but it'll be a week or so before I can join in the fun. I'm getting ready to head to a Buffy convention, so I'll be a bit busy this week. Wow it looks like there actually might be a bit of intrest after all. Woohoo! 🙂

We'll see how much intrest there is over the next few days, but at the very least it looks like we could at least do a song or three, at this point. 🙂 I want to take the next week or so to get an idea of how ambitious the project should be.

I'm going to draw up a list of what we need and post it here so that everyone can see exactly how they might be able to help if they are interested. The more the merrier, it would be really cool to have as many fans pitch in as possible. 🙂


Oh, and just a question Ginny And Solitary: Do you have a specific preference for a song, or a character's songs? I mean, in terms of desire to sing the song, but also in terms of vocal range etc..

I've got a range of three octaves but I'm not too confident with the high notes. I've been playing guitar for 3 years if that helps as well. I'd quite like the Xander part in I'll Never Tell or some of Giles' parts. I'm not too fussed. I'm looking forward to it 🙂

So is there any update on this? Are we still going to do this? I'd really like to. Tell me which songs to sing, and I'll do it, yo! Of course if I send you copies of me singing, the songs will be a capella as I don't have the sheet music to sing along to. Maybe I'll play the music in the background from the soundtrack so I can stay on key and just turn it down so you can't hear the original people singing! Ok, let me know if this is still on!
